We both have the same internet, you and I (I guess, unless you're in a place where watching porn'll get you thrown out then, you haven't); I'm looking for an upgrade.
I want to find a used computer online and cheap and working, not fussed if it's desktop or laptop, the oldest I'd consider buying would be like 7 years old? Maybe 6, to be in the safe side.

Oh I don't know, maybe look for it yourself?

What are you expecting beyond eBay, Local Classified ads, and Gumtree?

Also - why do you need it to be so old? If all you're doing is browsing the web, occasionally using office etc - get a freaking Netbook or something, you should be able to pick a relatively new one up for a couple hundred.

How is buying a 6-7 year old computer an upgrade?

Good question.

Because I'm using a 2002 XP that boasts a Pentium 4 motherboard.

Also, I like the ideas of bins and buying a new one but, meah, that's either hard or out my budget when the pcs people find are still old.

the only way using a 6-7 year old computer is an upgrade is if you were using a potato or a calculator to surf the web before or smth

Define.

The only way I could understand that is if like you thought I had the budget to upgrade to 2013 from a 2002, no; I meant, the oldest I'd want is a 2006. Y'know, anything I could afford built from 2006 to today.

I almost screamed like E.T when I saw the prices. http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/desktop-pcs/pro-audio-computers/, I guess custom is cool for £300 even if it won't be so nice.
You ever used them personaly?

Build it yourself. Get on newegg.com (or similar site) and buy the parts you need. Don't even bother buying a 6 year old computer. It'll be just as bad or worse than your current computer.

I can sell you my old laptop. It's just lying in my room. I installed a new hard drive just before I stopped using it, so you don't have to worry about it suddenly crashing, but the battery lasts for around 30 seconds. However, I have the charger, so it's cool.

Never buy a $300 laptop new. Might as well buy a $300 paperweight. I'm fairly certain that new laptops in the UK that cost 300GBP are also the same in that regard.

Specs on your Acer 5732? (I doubt the specs are too impressive.) Because, if you're just using it surf the internet or listening to music, then cool. However, TS would be better off buying an iPad and saving a few hundred if that's all he's going to do.

Running games or doing other tasks that require a lot of CPU power, yeah...you NEVER want something that costs that cheap. That's why I say cheap laptops are shitty, because they can barely run cheap games. Quite simply, if you spent $600 building a desktop, you'd get a computer 10 times better than any laptop that costs ~375GBP.

You can build a decent pc for about 500. Do that.

Then, why are we advising TS to spend 300GBP or whatever on a cheap laptop that will probably be marginalized in a year? I'm glad your PC works for you, but TS could spend his money much better.

He could literally build a decent PC for $600, which is roughly 400GBP. Of course, that'd be a mid-power type of PC that would do most things good but do nothing well.

Get the 64 bit version of Windows 7, and chuck in some more RAM.

I think everyone thinks they need a lot more computing power than they actually need. I could probably get by with a 1st generation i-phone for all the computing power I use on my laptop.
