So what do you think of it? I just put on a german channel that was playing a bond movie, and they bloody dubbed it into german. Here in the Netherlands they just put in Dutch subtitles but leave the old sounds.

So my question: what do you think of dubbing, and does it happen in your country? This question concerns mainly those living outside of the English speaking countries, so Ameri/Britfags, please stay out.

it doesn't annoy me, its just sad that so much in lost in translation, jokes are ruined and their are some words that simply do not exist in other languages.

What's really weird is that sometimes they'll take British advertisements and put them on TV here, but some channels they'll be overdubbed with American/Canadian voices and other channels they won't be. It really fucks with you.

I can't find the original British one, but it's obvious that's overdubbed.

Nah but have you seen an American version of a British tv show? Abominations.

I think the American Office is great. It's better just to think of it as a different programme and judge it on its own merits. It's not really much like the Office apart from the basic characters and the first episode.

I prefer watching things in their original language. Sure you might not understand it, and yes I'll have to read text, but the original voices have the intended emotional tone that adds to the overall experience.

Only two good dubs are ghost stories and Cromartie.

Cromartie is probably the best dub of anything ever.

That's because over here we're not poor and don't have to resort to READING when we wanna watch TV.

How about you learn ****ing English then. I never read subtitles

Actually, if it hadn't been for German TV being translated, I doubt my German would be as good as it is today. I learned a LOT of German from watching dubbed cartoons.

Nothing trumps what they do in Poland, they turn down the volume of the original (you can still slightly hear them) and they dub everything with the same monotonic male voice

Dubs only work for Miyazaki films. Other than that, subtitled originals all the way. I was really pissed to find out the Oldboy on Netflix was some shitty dub.

Cartoons: yay. Actual actors: nay.

Yeah, I was raised listening to the Canadian french version of the Simpsons, and I like it a lot more than the original version.

But as for real movies dubbed in french... I mean, from a movie to another, it's still the same translator speaking, even though the actor is different haha.

I'm so used to Spongebob in German that I actually think the voices in the original English dub aren't as fitting.

Thank you

Patrick is pretty much the same in both languages, but Squidward, Krabs and Spongebob sound much more "normal" to me in German.

Also, this thing in German is so much more hilarious

We get the opposite over here too, although sometimes the original ad wasn't even in English!

I don't believe in dubbing. Movies not in your language should be subtitled, not dubbed, because you're losing half of the performance when you take out the voice. Imagine watching Taxi Driver and not having De Niro's voiceover in it.

What a crock of shit. A Fistful Of Dollars, A New Hope, Scarface, The Fly, Insomnia, 12 Monkeys, True Grit, The Man Who Knew Too Much and a whole host of others are good remakes perhaps even better than the original. I don't think you know many films.

I dislike dubbing. I want to hear the actor's voice. Subtitles are much better.

They dub Turkish soap operas here into arabic. I ****ing hate turkish soap operas dubbed into arabic.

When I was a kid, cable TV had everything, EVERYTHING dubbed into Hindi. Cartoons, National Geographic, Discovery, movies... EVERYTHING was in Hindi and it was so annoying. And the thing was that sometimes you could even hear the original voices under the Hindi dub, just really softly. So strange and SO irritating.
Signatureless. And this doesn't count. Because I said so.

I don't know if that counts as dubbing or remaking my post.

Yeah this is essentially the type of cartoons I meant. I can't really watch Ghiblis with the Japanese voices, everyone just sounds like they're shouting all the time to me.

However the anime Steamboy for me is just ruined by the terrible accents, especially of the main character. HE just sounds like Daphne from Frasier who has the worst English accent ever.

Some foreign movies are dubbed into English here, but it usually is awkward to watch. Seeing the mouths move differently than what is being said just distracts me.

I prefer to just read subtitles.

I have found that dubbing works alright with animated movies, and that usually doesn't bother me.

You ever noticed how many times they use only certain voice actors? I think I've only ever heard 10-15 different voices in ANY German-dubbed movie/series
