The devil with me lives inside
I can never ever let him out
Any sign, I must forever hide
But sometimes I want to shout

It’s my self-control I must keep
If he sees the light of day
Too much hurt and pain he will reap
Heavy is the price I’ll pay

He is the keeper of my rage
I fear if I let him go
He’ll never return to his cage
This side I can never show

I have a side that’s dark and cold
With good is always a fight
This balance I must tightly hold
For there is no end in sight

I must keep him down in my depths
If danger proves to be fake
The risk of letting him take breaths
Is a gamble I can’t make

He sleeps and dreams of his one chance
To be free of his small cage
A fight is how he likes to dance
A war he’s dying to wage

If he should escapes to be free
My soul is forever lost
Should ever that need come to be
I would be quick to bare that cost

Thanks I modified it from the original format to make the syllables fit a pattern, lines 1 and 3 are 8 and lines 2 and 4 are 7 syllables to try and make it flow, it's still too rhyme(y) for a song though. it's a start in that direction.
