It's occured to me that GT doesn't really have a place for the regulars to hang out and just generally talk about stuff, whilst pretty much all the other forums have one. And yes, you could go into the Pit for that kinda stuff but let's face it, The Pit is kind of scary.

So now we've got one too, and it's all shiny and new. I don't expect it to stay that way but feel free to try it out and see if you like it.

Usual site rules apply regarding gore, porn and that bloody pear but we'll aim to keep things a little relaxed - however this is a new thing for Guitar Techniques so Freepower, your NEW mod Tostitos and myself will probably let this run for a while and see how it pans out, and if we think it needs stricter regulation we'll filter that down to you all.

This might not even work, I mean for all I know you could all hate each other and not have a civil word to say between the lot of you but hopefully you'll have something nice to say.

Knock yourselves out guys

Hello

None of you have probably seen me before unless you frequent the bass forum, but I'm helping out here now too so I'll try and be more frequent and hopefully get to know you all in Guitar Techniques. Hooray for the chat thread!

Ahh, cool cool, I've been thinking about trying to make this forum more welcoming to bass players for a while but I don't know enough about bass picking hand technique to really do it myself

In other news... I am now 26. Also Bioshock Infinite is out. Only one of these things is good...

I don't even own a proper smartphone, feel like I'm missing something since I'm a Computer Science student! Bioshock Infinite is seriously good though, if I didn't have other things to be doing I'd be playing it right now...

Being someone who once had and lost a Galaxy S2, smartphones are really fun and awesome and stuff but you're not missing much (except for even more ways to procrastinate) if you don't get one.

A new mod with experience in bass seems like a really sensible idea, welcome!

Tell us a bit about yourself Tostitos!

My name is Cameron, and I'm from Seattle, WA (US). I'm a fine arts major at Washington State University wrapping up my fourth year, and I'm a bassist. I'm sure I can help with any bass related questions, but I don't play guitar at all so unfortunately I have zero expertise with any guitar-particular techniques (which I guess is mostly right hand technique).

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. And for not pulling out the torches and pitchforks at the sight of the word "bass."

Meh, I make a big thing about getting older for the crowds, as it were, but really... nothing much has changed with my age since I was about 18, everything that has changed has been a product of something completely different.

Obviously I can't speak for everyone or for every age but so far... meh, I am unimpressed by the ravages of time

Actually I decided today to look for a random chat thread in here because I have so many thoughts about my playing that I can't seem to nail down into a useful thread. So this might be handy. Certainly won't reach Pit status, but it could be good.

Like how I'm trying to find the weak link in my setup, but I think it's only because I know deep inside my Ibanez GSA60 is the weak link. It's my baby, though.

No antisocialism here, this thread just needs a touch more beer is all. Either that or I'm too used to the bass forum chat.

I'm still not entirely sure I see the point but then if I only ever did things that had points to them I'd have a much more boring life

I drink way too much when I'm at uni though, it costs me more money than I'm willing to really think about

Edit:

Just taking a look at the thread with the guy asking about pre-loading your fingers... jesus christ I dislike Pebber Brown immensely. Possibly the most irritating guitar teacher I have ever come across

This, although I tend to take too many substances anyway so I can't blame uni for all of it.

Thinking about it logically I can easily conclude that taking any drug (including alcohol) is a "waste" but then I remember that life isn't just about logic - You've got to enjoy yourself as well.

I don't really see the point either, I just really like fine craft beers.

I might start drinking more heavily though if the registrars office doesn't figure out how to fix my class registration problems. I call about the same issue every semester and it's never been permanently fixed.

Hey guys, also never got drunk before. Too scared I'll do something crazy LOL.

Can't say I've ever done something crazy, I think about the dumbest thing I've ever done was try to jump on a bollard, completely miss and fall flat on my face. I woke up with some missing skin on my face so I couldn't exactly lie my way out of it

Ouch man, what issue is that? We always seem to have some issues with class registration at my uni but that's more to do with the computer system just being overloaded...

Man, I just cannot get along with whiskey, I have tried so hard! Much more of a cider man myself, there's some damn fine ciders out there if you look for them

You do but I have deep suspicions about any booze sold in the US to begin with; very little of it has a good reputation over here!

British people are really weird - I think cider means strong beer/malt liqueur? Cuz I bought somethin called cider at Fred Meyer and it just tasted like 211. And it gave me a nasty headache.

They sell stuff from all over the world here, I will agree the actual american brands are not very good, especially major brands like Coors, Miller and Bud and I can't stand american whisky. I'm all about scotch and irish whisky.

There are some great small brand beers. Lots of good micro brews here.

Oh silly American Cider is an alcohol brewed from apples. In a similar vein you also get perry which is brewed from pears, the term "pear cider" has become quite popular recently and it annoys me greatly

Cider tends to be comparable in strength to most normal beers and lagers (around 4-9% ABV) and varies in quality about as much too. Again, I wouldn't trust most ciders that you can get from big chain stores; like with beers the better stuff is usually made smaller scale. I have no idea where you'd get good cider over there in the US though

Yeah, small breweries are best from what I've heard; artisan types who take great pride in their craft. Nothing like something made by someone who really cares!

Cider is delicious. So is mead. And there is good beer in/from the US, you just have to look beyond Budweiser and Keystone Light. Rogue, Great Divide, Deschutes, The Pike, and Paradise Creek are some of my favorites right now.

Although I've had a thing for Wychwood Brewery Hobgoblin for like 6 months now. That stuff is so ****ing good.

Meh, I don't drink beer, lager, ale or stout anyway

Don't get along with mead so much either, it's not horrible but I don't think I could drink very much of it, it's a weird combination of sweet and booze that doesn't seem to work for me.

I agree with you on it being a little too sweet. I only drink mead on occasion at the tavern with my friends. My buddy has a drinking horn that makes you feel all medieval when you drink mead from it.
