I dunno, seems like "pop music" is thrown around as a way to insult bands or make fun of them these days, particularly on UG. I really like pop music, it makes me happy. I like catchy songs. Obviously I get that it's not for everyone and you shouldn't listen if you don't like it or you hate it, whatever. that's fine. I just don't know why it's used as a dirty word.
I mean like in the "My Chemical Romance breakup" news article all the comments are "bluh bluh they were a shitty pop band screw them." Like yeah, they were pop influenced, obviously. That doesn't make them bad. Pop isn't bad. Maybe it's just not your thing.

No thanks sounds like a hellish place.
also the only thing "metal" that I really like is BTBAM and I feel like their response will be "hipster fag that's not metal that's trash compared to wjiaofehfwe".

The thing is though, I made similar comments in the Pit a few years ago and got waaaaaay different responses than the pit is giving me now. Which makes me happy. Good on you, pit.

the BTBAM thread was actually just moved from the hardcore forum to the metal forum

almost all of the metal regs hate BTBAM and can't stand that it's so active

I dunno man, it just is!

I guess part of it would be because of the artist themselves. Their celebrity status goes up and suddenly they're all over TV making the media talk about things no one should care about, (but does) getting their own perfume/cologne, interviews, you know. All that stuff.

It's clear that's most associated with pop artist nowadays than any other genre. From an outside perspective (like, not liking pop or everything the media covers about them), that's probably viewed as a big negative.

And that, my dear boy, is probably why.
...Or my guess anyways.

OT:
I personally don't like a ton of Pop, because I find it simplistic.

That said, UG Article Comment sections are like Youtube comment sections. They naturally attract 2 types of people. Person 1 is the guy/gal who hates the band/song. Person 2 is the guy/gal who loves the band. You can see how this would end up with a lot of stupidity in the long run...

I actually really love Metal. It's the Metalheads who make stupid insistences like, "Oh, this genre would suck without Satanic references" that make me want to strangle a bitch.

If you can't tell, I'm talking about Black Metal. I recently had a discussion with someone over how Black Metal should be regarded as religiously neutral and therefore no one should have an issue with religious lyrics. Let's just say we both expounded ourselves stupidly.

Point is, a lot of Metalheads have this idea that there's zero room for Metal subgenres to grow or expand. And they're quite resistant to any new genres of Metal.

The thing I find brilliant about all the pop music hate based upon the 'hurrdurr, they notz as taluntedz as metullz lolll' is that pop session musicians are much better musicians than a lot of metal ones.

do you have any proof that the majority of pop studio musicians are better than metal studio musicians? my first question is are there even metal studio musicians? how can you be in a metal band without actual band members? does that mean gene holglan steve vai all the people at g3, buckethead ext are all studio musicians due to their massive amount of collabs? now tell me, what pop studio guitarist is better than buckethead?
#34
the contention that pop music is inferior because it's easy to listen to and it holds less artistic merit is crap, and most of the pit agrees with that, ts. the whole idea is totally stuck in the renaissance.

the pit does have problems though. many of us cannot accept abstract paintings as art, especially drip paintings, which someone always brings up. many struggle to see video games as an art form. they would probably, in the same breath, dismiss interior design, fashion, and street performers. it's kind of annoying, coming from a family of artists, but what can i do to change it?

Well, the sad thing is, a lot of the users are still stuck in the glory days, despite being like university students or in high school. I get that a ton of older metal was excellent. It doesn't make new stuff inferior by default.
