Well, the sad thing is, a lot of the users are still stuck in the glory days, despite being like university students or in high school. I get that a ton of older metal was excellent. It doesn't make new stuff inferior by default.

This block of text should be ignored, for its massive amount of brain-hurting ridiculous-ness.

well buckethead is poop so he certainly lacks in songwriting anyway.

seriously? i hate these single guitarist discussions, buckethead was just my example of a perfect guitarist, but it seems like some people dont agree... why would you think buckethead is poop?
#45
I would say it is a combination of being closed minded, wanting to be different, and hating the fan base as opposed to the actual artist.

Also, people tend to think that the level of complexity equates to the listener's intelligence level, so you might get someone listening to some crazy shit just because it's unusual and shunning pop music just because it's simple.
WHOMP

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

Maybe. Literally the only bands I listen to in there are BTBAM and Mastodon so I don't have much an opinion on the music.

I never ventured into there until BTBAM got moved out of the hardcore forum recently. Every other day they come in to troll, because they hate how active it is, while the fans are trying to talk about the band.

It just gets annoying.

I might change my mind.

Listening to Colma now. great so far.

other stuff I heard by him was rather boring.

I'll come back when I've heard the entire album.

He told you already, because Buckethead, despite having amazing technical skills, is not that great of a songwriter in his opinion. I'm sorry someone disagrees with you.

Now, fill this out:

i like cynic, atheist, and death. since they perfected the genre back in the 90s, there's no point in listening to anything else. the whole metal forum is redundant.

i don't really consider btbam metal. like not in the pedantic way but if you asked me what genre they were off hand i'd be like "metalcore ish i guess but faster and stuff". i can see the argument in them being metal. well not really cause i would never read such an argument and would concede immediately because it doesn't matter to me what people call bands i don't like in generes i don't like either so there that is.

anyway

i say stop listening to colma because its sad and lsiten to sex music or killer insane metal chops.

but seriously, back to the topic, like i said before pop music has a bad reputation like cops do. not all cops are bad and corrupt, but there are so many bad ones that they ruin it for everyone.

edit: btbam are metal, but they dont sound like anyone else iv ever lsitened to. metal core sounds bad, death core sounds bad, hardcore punkcore screamo, all might fit the description, but none compare to btbam

For many of us, there's a lot more to it than just those bands. And we like discussing other bands and subgenres.

I would agree with that. They're really not 100% Metal, but they're one of those odd bands that it doesn't really matter genre they are. To a guy like me at least.

It's generalized statements of opinion like the bolded stuff that make me stop taking you seriously. That, and your original Buckethead butthurt, of course.

i dont think all of it is bad. i like a few bands from nearly every genre, buti think so many others are bad i can say metal core sucks. sure the contortionist have maybe 2 cool songs, northlane has 1 good song, born of osiris made a few good tracks, then youv got btbam who make many many mind blowingly amazing tracks.

And that's why your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad. You're still making a huge generalization.

Also, a major issue I have is that you think bands like Born of Osiris are good examples of Metalcore, rather than thinking that bands like Converge are good examples. Born of Osiris is what I call NuMetalcore.

do you have any proof that the majority of pop studio musicians are better than metal studio musicians? my first question is are there even metal studio musicians? how can you be in a metal band without actual band members? does that mean gene holglan steve vai all the people at g3, buckethead ext are all studio musicians due to their massive amount of collabs? now tell me, what pop studio guitarist is better than buckethead?

What I posted is almost the exact opposite of what normally gets said in this whole pop discussion., and it's unfortunate. Of course there's fantastic musicians on both sides- Gene Hoglan for example, as you've mentioned. Roy Mayorga is another. Jeroen Paul Thesseling- he's a death metal bassist (as I'm sure you know) who applies 72 equal-tone temperament and makes it work. On the pop side, you've got the likes of Steve Lukather (Toto guitarist) who's done fantastic pop records as a session guitarist. Lee Ritenour has done great session work on the popular jazz scene. Gail Ann Dorsey has provided music for some of David Bowie's greatest work. Pino Palladino as well, has sat brilliant sessions with his bass. Simon Clarke, a saxophonist, Divinty Roxx... I could go on. You rarely hear about these guys, and it's a huge shame, because they aren't at the forefront, but they are all excellent musicians. They may not wank off all the time, but as musicians, they have a great ear and have the chops to provide. My initial statement was hyperbolic, yes. But no more so than what normally gets said, and never gets followed up with examples.

I'm just glad I didn't start going on about any of Stevie Wonder's session musicians! Stevie's such a trolling dick with them it's untrue- he's been known to tell the band to play a previously practiced song in a completely different key when it comes to the live performance. And that's being told when the song starts. I'd hate that. But that's why they're professionals, I guess

Yeah, you should probably learn a little more about metalcore before you make generalizations about it.

Also, basically what Phils said, I only go into the metal forum for the BTBAM thread, and the regs trolling on it are pretty annoying.

Also, pop music is great and anyone who thinks it's an insult doesn't know anything about music.
