I never make threads these days, but here's something that justifies such unusual behaviour on my behalf.

Hark! Comparisons to Summoning are inevitable, but that's far from a bad thing when the music is of such great quality. I'll be damned if Echoes Of Battle isn't one of the best releases of the year.

Any band hoping to walk in the footsteps of the mighty Summoning would lose half their charm if they lacked crappy MIDI-instruments. Lo and behold, Caladan Brood deliver!

I was drawn here by the name, from the Malazan Chronicles right?

And "Book of the Fallen"

Love the tunes though.

Someone on HH showed me their new album, great stuff! Yeah, it's clearly very influenced by Summoning, but they've seamlessly incorporated more "rockish" parts at times as opposed to the strictly classical flair of the former band, so it's not as if this band doesn't have their own distinct voice. Always nice to hear good USBM

Music's all great but I got a bit of a problem with the vocals; the growls/screeches in particular.

I never was a big fan of bands like this...though I do like the 2nd song. A few light BM elements to it.

^ The above two posts are falses, clearly.

This is the next best thing to Summoning. A knockoff at times, but they have their own sound and are very good. Not quite as incredible as Summoning but almost.

Amazing band, almost as good as Summoning.
Even better if you've read the Malazan books, the atmosphere is perfect.

Make that thoroughly enjoyable.

It's amazing. Like it even more now than I did the first time, which is pretty impressive.
They sound more like Gallowbraid than Summoning I thought, the same vocals and guitar solo things, but I guess it's all the same sorta idea

You're not kidding. Caladan Brood sounds eerily similar, especially the clean chants.

heard about Caladan Brood on another forum and thought the music was quite good. I have to admit that I haven't listened to the music since sometime during the summer, and I mean to rectify that.

Was kind of annoyed that Caladan wasn't a reference to Dune... now I'm biased against this band because Dune.

Summoning worship. Nothing wrong with that. This is a good sound. However, I think especially in the last few years, that I have to be in a particular mood to sit down and enjoy this style of music.

Also, Kep your taste in metal is impeccable. You should make it a point to post more threads.

Well that's because Gallowbraid is pretty much the same type of Summoning worship as far as I'm concerned. Neither of them have the same perfect effect of a Summoning album but they make for a damn enjoyable listen. I have been known to raucously sing the clean chorus found in Book of The Fallen while washing my balls in the shower.

But neither Caladan Brood or Gallowbraid have left me stupefied with eyes wide shut like the first time I heard Dol Goldur.

But in all seriousness I will check this band out.

Checked this and Gallowbraid out. This is style I ****ing love, but only Summoning could feed my needs for it. Ered Wethrin are another band who look to be getting into this style, so looking forward to them as well.

Necro yes i know. But, the reason why Gallowbraid sounds similar to Caladan Brood is because, like T3h Shred B0iz to Ghost Snorter, they are literally the same band lol. ****ing love this band and really hope something new comes at some point,

All good man, im sure caladan brood/gallowbraid isnt the first in this realm of metal. yet, they came into my life at a hard time and it was the exact remedy needed tons of shit, MIDI aside, they both are great bands.
