Im looking to upgrade the pickups on my Epi G400 1965 - like this:

I play pretty much everything across metal/rock - Parkway, Sabbath, Metallica, etc. so am looking for something thats not too much of a one trick pony but adds balls and clarity. Im into the heavy blues sound.

Theres too many different sorts of pickups so educate me and help me pick some that could fit the bill.

Oh, also playing through a Blackstar HT-20 into Orange 2x12 cab.

Give Railhammers a try:
http://www.railhammer.com/index.html

The HyperVintage are the most middle of the road, with the Chisel and the Anvil being respectively more voiced towards heavier music.

My bet is that a pair of HyperVintages or a HyperVintage & Chisel would be a good combo for you.

Another company to check out would be Tesla:

I've seen Teslas in a few different brands of guitar over the years, and I'm having a VR Extreme HB and a pair of OPUS-S1 singlecoils installed in a custom build. I think something from their VR or OPUS lines would satisfy your requirements.

SD Custom 5 / '59

The Customs are really hot PAFs, pretty much exactly what it sounds like you want.

The SD '59 is pretty much my favorite SD pickup- good suggestion.

TS, where did you go? Haven't seen you in forever. It's been years, man.
