I have a marshall avt 100 knocking around and really like the sound of the micro terrors, i like the clean on my avt but im digging my dual terror head!

Do i swap the avt for a micro terror as a small backup head for gigging or keep tha avt?

I'm confused; you brought up the Dual Terror, which is a completely separate amp from the Micro Terror.

So what's the question here? If you like the Micro Terror better than your AVT, get it. We can't tell you what your tastes are.

Thats something only you can decide. Do you prefer that your practice/home rig sounds good or is it just enough that it produces some sound? We cant tell you that.

I would not do the trade, and I don't even like the AVT. The micro terror will not work for giging unless you are mic'd

^^He isn't even going to use the micro terror for gigging as he stated a few posts back!

Regarding your question on build quality, the micro terror is built like the other terror series. Very strong and built to last.

I like the sound of the micro terror but I haven't compared it to the dual terror, it can get very loud. I recommend you try out the amp and see if you like, if so, then buy it.

Edit: Also for the money I love this amp, I didn't buy a cabinet for it so I connected it to the speaker in my VHT amp and it sounds awesome.

No most people do not mic amps at the typical gig. I'd say it is maybe 50/50 at best that you are mic'd

The dual Terror is tiny. Why would you need two amps? Just drag the head around, it's only 20 lb.

My dual terror will be for gigging the micro for practice purposes, unsure haha

I don't think it will work very well, 20 watts of SS power will get nasty sounding at volumes if it can even get that loud

You have to replace the tubes often?

you own a dual terror, correct?
you own an marshal AVT correct?
you want to ditch the marshall for a micro terror, correct?
you want the micro terror to play the micro at home, correct?
you want the dual terror for gigging, correct?

what speakers are you going to use with the micro terror?
what do you have at your practice?

why can't you carry a Dual Terror around? they even come with a bag fitted for them (rather sturdy at that), they are light.
you are sick of replacing valves?

i have had my Dual Terror a few years now, gigged it plenty, used a lot in the studio, still has stock tubes. you should not be eating through them. i love the dual terror.

Micro terror is SS.

If it sounds on to you for practice then do it. Go with what sounds better to you.

Someone asked about the tubes dieing in my dt, and the micro isnt ss, its got a tube preamp if im not mistaken? A 12 ax7?

Use the dual terror for practice, it has a volume knob for a reason.... Dont waste your money on the micro terror, you dont need it.

I've not been to nor played a gig where the guitar amps weren't miced up for about 6 years, just saying.

I don't see the point of this thread, you have 2 amps in mind, its 2013 pretty much everything mainstream is well made all you have to do is decide which one you like more and use it, nobody in the thread can tell you better than yourself.

If you already have an AVT and you like it for practice then save the money is my only suggestion.

Yeah, those are EL84's not 3l84's The power tubes.
The tube doesn't really do anything. Similar to the Vt series by vox, it is a bit of a gimmick IMHO.
How often do you replace valves? If you have to replace hem than once every couple of years, something might be wrong with you (r'e amp)
I would just do what Maximus said- use the DT's volume knob.
(also,see trashed's post.)

Tone is in the fingers.

What you really need is a new amp.

i can tell you that a DT even on 15 watts quiets down nicely. i play in the middle of the night and my wife has never complained on the volume. she is a pretty light sleeper too.

the volume knob will get you down.
