Has anyone else been having trouble with YouTube for the past month or so?

I'm not sure what it is, but YouTube has been running very slowly for me lately. I takes forever for videos to buffer, even short ones. Just yesterday it took nearly two hours for a ten minute video to load just a little bit. I have the latest version of Flash, my internet connection is fine, and my computer is fast and virus free. I've tried a large number of things to fix it, none of which has work, and I've totally run out of ways to resolve the issue. I've tried several programs that supposedly boost buffering speed, I've changed the videos to 240p, I've tried YouTube Feather, none of it has done anything at all. Even Feather on 240p does nothing. YouTube just simply refuses to work.

I'm just curious if anyone else has been having a similar predicament to mine.

It's been like that for the past few months for me. I can't run anything over 240p but every other video players and everything else on the web works fine.

Youtube is just shit

It's because they did so much changes and didn't fix any bugs that they've created in the process

It's just Youtube? So you've tried other services like Vimeo or something like that?

I've been having that problem too. It just won't buffer fast enough for me to watch something without it having to stop and buffer again. Anything over like 2 or 3 minutes long is a nightmare.

It's definitely something on Google's end. I even used their DNS server and it didn't help at all.

I tell ya, even since they switched to that new format a few months ago everything has been messed up really bad. I can even see new comments on my videos or read any messages or anything... It's like they completely got rid of the entire backend of the community features.

Whoever is head of the design over at YouTube should be fired.

Does your guys's videos every randomly restart when you're part way into a video, and then it has to reload? It happens to ALL of the videos I watch now.
#11
...Well mine is as good as it was. It was slow yesterday evening, but every website lagged so much (hell, I had trouble loading Google...) so I guess it was a connection problem on my part. But aside from that, everything run/ran smooth.
Ayy there

Yeah it's taken me goddamn 30 minutes to load 8 minutes of a video that I was going to watch. Earlier today I loaded a 4k res video on Vimeo almost instantly. Youtube is such bullshit right now.

Actually, no I haven't.
Like, at all.
I'm even playing 1080p at pretty decent speed. No lie.

The screen was all black but there was audio on some videos for me. I cleaned my history/cache/cookies and that fixed the problem.

Yeah, I just watched a 45 minute video that ran on the Blip.Tv player and it loaded 100% in less than a minute. Vimeo works totally fine as well, though I rarely watch anything on it. It's definitely just YouTube. It's the site itself too, because all videos I've seen here on UG that are embedded YouTube links work fine, when the same video would run terribly slow on the site.

Anyone else noticed that most of you that are complaining about problems are on the East coast?

You waited 2 hours for a video to buffer?

Nope no problems at all recently.

Try updating your GPU?

GPU has nothing to do with it.

It's a bandwidth issue, not a hardware issue. Virtually every computer out there can run a YouTube video.

I didn't just sit there waiting for it. I tried watching a video and saw it wasn't loading after waiting for a minute or two, so I got up and left to go do something else while it loaded. I sort of forgot, and came back two hours later to find the video had loaded enough for me to watch it.

True

Never had any major issues with YT, other than back when I used to use IE (LMAO). Since using Chrome never had an issue.

Well alright. Gonna say right now i've been having issues with it to.

I think I made a post about this exact thing the computer thread a while back and remember WCPhils said the same thing.

And randomly one day all those problems went away. I have no idea, why, how, or even when. But one day my videos started loading perfectly. It's so weird.

Again, something to do with the East coast? Look at your locations.

Probably.

I know it's not on my end though because everything else works fine.... It's a problem on their side. I'd bet quite a bit of money (that I don't have) that they're moving to new servers or something like that.

Yup, east coast, horrendously slow loading times. Cleared cache & cookies. YouTube fails.

Yup, I'm an East Coaster. I wonder why it's just us with these issues. Stonyman65 said they might be moving servers, but this problem has been going on for about a month. I don't know anything about changing servers, especially with a site as big as YouTube, but I don't imagine it would take a whole month. Besides, they usually let users know when they switch servers so people don't flip shit about it. My guess is it's some bug in the site or something.

Well another thing to remember is that YouTube is now fully integrated with Google and all of their stuff too. If something gets screwed up with Google, YouTube goes with it.

I don't think it is one specific thing, but a whole bunch of stuff that in the end turns into one big clusterfuck.

Hopefully they'll fix it soon

Yep. Even short videos will stop to buffer half way through even if they're clearly already loaded.

Facebook keeps freezing as well. Everything else works fine, though. Porn still runs like a dream.

Yeah, I have troubles now and again (including tonight with certain videos but not others). And I'm also on the East Coast. It's pretty annoying, but I have to just try and be calm and remember how amazing YouTube is and that something like it actually exists. The earth 8 years ago was a world without YouTube, but it feels like we've had the service forever. Google's a company that does a lot of stuff, as mentioned above. So they might be trying to juggle services of theirs as they migrate content from one server to another, and serve people content on the increasing number of Android & iPhones. I read about a week or so ago that the number of activated Android based phones has hit over 750,000,000. So many people with data plans downloading cat videos! YouTube overload!

If anything HTML5 should be faster. Although then again, I don't know how they're converting it. If they actually physically convert the videos themselves, or if the user's computer has to deal with it instead.
