Is there a brand or a guitar you were looking at that you cant help but think .. what were they thinking ( for a rang e, or a specific model ) .

i.e im right now shopping for an ESP Eclipse ( which is a les paul model with a belly cut and a slimmer neck ( more for shredders or metal ) than a les paul standard . ... im looking for a guitar without EMG's , i want the duncan sh-4 sh-2 set .

i was looking at ESP website .. my budget is 1800 $ .

THE ONLY AVAILABLE COLOR WITHOUT THE EMG'S IS : SILVER SPARKLE

http://www.espguitars.com/guitars/esp-standard/eclipse2-ssp.html

this ( form a company thats known for being the metal shredders company , is possibly the biggest fail ive seen . this guitar is simply horrible , has totally no reselll value and look it was made for KESHA or AVRIL LAVIGNE . who put sparkle and glitter on a heavy metal oriented guitar ????

this is the only eclipse available with duncans .

so people share you dose of fail ( a color , a model ) ??

What are you talking about?
That guitar screams metal.

Why do you need a black guitar to play metal, how boring....

I've already gone on record saying the Music Man Armada looks like the designers ate at Sonic so much that the fast-food chain's signage became the basis for the guitar's design.

It's all well & good to have an ouija board guitar* until you're playing live and the spirits heckle you by grabbing the plectrum to spell out "You SUCK!"

* though honestly, it SHOULD have been done on a cigar-box guitar. Hmmmmmmmm...

EDIT: just suggested that to John at Red Dog Guitars- a maker of very nice cigar-box guitars.

also just grab a jb jazz set on ebay i just got another set for 76 bidding. right now i been seeing lots of good pickups go for cheap. seems like no ones bidding lately.

Yeah the guitar prices (and accessories) on Ebay have been extremely low for a little while now. It seems that prices go up during the summer and come down during the winter.

Yeah, apparently TS couldn't figure that one out. Find a used Eclipse and use the extra money to buy yourself a pair of Bareknuckles instead.

arent the pots and everything different going from active to passive . ?????

btw im just saying that ESP have like 8-9 model with emg and only one with duncans . i ca understand that since theres probably a lot of people who will buy esp for emgs .. but if you had to carry only one color for a passive pikcups , would you put it SILVER SPARKLE ???? i probably would have put black or sunburst just to make sure the color wont turn down potential buyer .

I bought a guitar with EMGs, got a BKP holy diver set, the place I got the guitar and the pups installed with new pots for like $290 or something like that. And they gave me $100 for the EMGs. Sweet deal.

Pots only cost $10-15 each if that and its always nice to solder with new stuff anyway. And you can wire it up the way you want. I am currently digging parallel/series I just did with my P-rails over the coiltap all guitars come with.
What the hell!!!

I have been watching the EMG craze get worse for the last year and a half. They come in everything. They must be cheaper than passives when bought in quantity. Personaly I think they suck.

These are the Eclipse models from 2012 - most of these should still be easily attainable. There are some different options there.

This. It's kind of ridiculous to get mad that a guitar you like doesn't have the exact pups you want. Get the guitar you like for the sake of it feeling and looking good to you. There are tons of pickups out there - the JB/'59/Jazz & EMG 81/85/60 are pretty much "stock" pickups. The quality is there, no doubt, but they're all fairly middle of the road and relatively bland compared to what's out there. Just think of them as stock pickups with actual resale value.

OP: ESP allows all of their guitars to be ordered with either active EMG or passive Seymour Duncan pickups. You want a black EMG model with SD pickups? They'll do it. You want the silver sparkle with EMGs? They'll knock one up for you. There's usually no upcharge for this, you just have to wait a bit longer for it to actually arrive since they're done to order. Contact your nearest ESP dealer.

The only guitars I've ever really facepalmed at are things like limited runs which aren't actually that limited, or guitars which render the manufacturer's own products redundant (e.g. the Epiphone ES-339 'Pro' when the 'Ultra' version is vastly superior in every single way).

Much cheaper than $1800 with case and original EMGs included.

I hate to say it but for years I've looked at Orange amps and they've always been orange. It just seems so wrong to me for it to be black.

Like I said I'm still considering it, got a few days to make my decision.

This. It's the boringest color ever on what I consider the boringest body style ever. And yes, I know Clapton and others have posted all this stuff about how the strat body is the best functional body ever.

I don't think the body shape is boring at all. I think it's a beautiful example, almost perfection.

It's just those colours remind me of Squier starter packs. Black on Black is a great colour.

Needs black pickups & knobs, too...with the headstock color-matched to the body.

Maybe black chromed hardware.

Black coated strings, perhaps?

And an ebony fretboard!

Strat shape aside I think it would look awesome. Matte/satin black body, shiny black pickguard, black nickel/chrome hardware. Lots of subtle details in the blackness, definetly not a all-shiny black hole.

Black-on-black with white pickups and controls always just makes me think you're copying David Gilmour. White-on-black with white makes me think you're copying Clapton. White pickguards with black pickups/controls makes me think you're ripping off Billy Corgan.

There are too many black and black-and-white guitars in the world

Get a shell pink body and a green pearl pickguard. Try chrome pickups. Nobody uses that combination. It'll be unique to you.
