Hey all, not sure where this topic fits so i threw it in the pit to see what i could get. anywho im looking at having a show in my house with about 4-5 bands, in my basement, from about 7 to around 11-12 ideally. Now what im wondering is should i contact the city hall....? Ive never hosted a show in my house before and i feel like just having everyone show up and set up and then have 80 people come over is asking for a little visit by the you know who (the police) so enlighten me on what you do if you were preparing to have a house show, in about month or so in late may too in that mattersm thanks!!

best thing to do is make sure you arent suuuper loud and the people who live close or cool with it.

The even better thing you can do is get a permit for loud noise but cities are different all over the world

Lets hope you don't have a fire in your windowless basement and wind up with 80 dead friends. You'll never get a permit to do anything in your basement.

Any more questions?

just don't invite this guy.

i'm glad the boston PD are better at assisting the injured and capturing terrorists than they are impersonating punks on the internet.

IDK american laws but in australia what you're proposing would be illegal as ****, your house would be on residential zoned land, I doubt you have enough toilets to sate event requirements, exit lights, sufficient exits etc.
Are you charging admission? If not you could pass it off as a private party or at least say that to the cops if you get asked.
Look your local laws up but my money is on it being impossible to do totally above board and legit-like.

I'd call whoever provides your liability insurance and ask them. They are just sitting at a desk waiting for you to ask them questions, after all.

I'd also talk to my neighbors and certainly wouldn't try to make money out of it. That just adds more liability on your shoulders.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

Talk to the neighbours, don't let it go on too late. Also, your house must be pretty huge if you are having a band and 80 people coming along.
WHOMP

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

Best bet is just to do it and pay the fines, because that is pretty much the only way that it will happen.

Don't contact any official shiz, Just write your neighbours a letter apologising in advance for the noise and promising it'll be done before midnight.
#14
my friends have had The Body and J mascis play their basements nothing will happen.
I realize. That I hate the sound of guitars

Don't be loud, no outside drinking, don't publicly post the address, and have the show over by a reasonable hour and you'll be fine.
Shotty you're a ten, I wait for your drunk dials at 2:30 AM

Good luck with that.

No seriously, let us know if you get it approved and what happens.

We used to rent a house at college with mt band, we lived and had big parties all the time, neighbours were always invited, loud as hell but never any problems. We could have just been lucky I guess

1) Tell your neighbors you are having an indoor concert and it might get loud
2) Tell them they are free to attend
3) Request that if the noise levels are too high, they take it up with you before the poilce

You'll never get a permit for anything like that in a residential area.

If you notify people before hand, if they hear anything, they will call the cops.

If you don't notify them and do it, if they hear anything, they will call the cops.

Cops will check everyone to make sure there is no underage drinking. If there is (even iff the brought their own or got drunk before hand) you will be held responsible.

How much trouble depend on region, here is one from Chicago http://www.chicagonow.com/chicagos-real-law-blog/2012/12/parties-and-underage-drinking-who%E2%80%99s-responsible-when-someone-gets-hurt/

Just have all the bands play post-rock and there'll be no problems.

Yeah cause then everyone will be asleep

You're supposed to figure this kind of shit out before hand... Damn punkz kids. Oh well, have fun getting multiple fines, and half your shit stolen/broken.

just do it, dont worry about that shit.

this is probably the best piece of advice anyone mentioned. First off theres nothing in the house my lease is up on the 25th and the show would be the day before, i was just wondering if there was anyway i could avoid cops. and for whoever said "windowless basement" that was a poor assumption because my basement does infact have windows in it. im just going to do it and wrap it by 10 instead of 11

Oh I'm sure those three guys will sufficiently strong arm the police and scare them away.
