The Jackson DM2M is a nice guitar...

I had one and really regret selling it

The bridge pickup could be better; I don't really like the Seymour Duncan JB in a bright guitar.

Not tried the new DK2MQ, but don't think they look as good without the black skarkfin inlays.

i think all the years of listening to loud music has effected my hearing as i tend to think things sound to dark for the most part.

do you think that the seymour duncan would be good, its not gonna be my main gigging guitar but id like a brighter tone for certain songs in the set.

ive only really used the JB with soild state amps ages ago so not sure how good itll sound with my peavey, im used to a think powerful song from my emgs and mahogany guitars do you think itll be a bit thin sounding and weak?

DK2M is a great guitar. I almost bought one some years ago now. I regret not doing so.

The JB has plenty of output, so not weak or thin, but is very mid-range focused. Wont be an issue if you have a decent amp, and know how to EQ it...

A Jackson DK2M would be an excellent choice! If you can find one, jump all over it!

I love my DK2M, my favorite Jackson I own, would highly recommend it and I believe it will give you the sound you're looking for, it's fairly versatile and the neck pickup is really bright while the bridge pickup gets you some nice, solid heavier leads. Really enjoyed the guitar since I've bought it and it looks great too, definitely a good deal for their price range.

go with the adrian smith, you get a little bit of both worlds. If you put any money in it, just upgrade the pup's.

If the only thing holding you back from fender is the need to mod look closer you would be surprised the options they have my next guitar purchase is probably gonna be the one that I make into my metal guitar. I tried out the blacktop hsh and it sounded great man. That's what the blacktops are made for is metal

Take a look at the Fernandes Retrorocket Pro- it should be in your price range.
http://www.fernandesguitars.com/retrorocket/retrorocket-pro.html

Besides the basic Fat-strat form, it has a hot HB in the bridge, a vintage voiced single-coil in the middle, and a Sustainer in the neck.
