If you like the SR500, why not go for it? You can find 'em used for between $400 or $500

When you break a bass string, that snapping sound is the sound of six dollars going down the crapper.

First rule of the Rickenbacker GAS club: Don't talk about Rickenbacker.

There are certain people round here that get real pissy about the company. You have been warned......

If you ask me about my favorite basses..ahhh rick 4001/4003, aria pro2 SB, alembic, sadowsky, ZON!!! Those are beast of bassing, but you gotta spend a fortune in order to get one.
As for the 600$ you have you can still get a bounch of farly good instruments!
If I had that money, I'd get an ESP ltd B-50 (4 str) or a B-55 (5 str) whith active Pups, great finish, great tone, the instrument is just sexy. Put some rotos on it and you'll be the happiest bass player around for only about 300$! And for the savings get a bass big muff or add some more and get the line 6 bass pod, I'd kill for one.
Or I'd also go for a Warwick RB streamer, I'm pretty sure you can find those std 4 stringed, I'd go for the 5 stringer. Warwick has a badass tone and great quality. You'll have no savings though..
cheers!

At least this side of the pond, buying a Warwick RB is pointless. For the price of a new one, you can pick up a real Warwick second-hand. I got my German made Corvette in mint condition for the same price as a new RB.
