Hey guys,
I currently own a Shure Sm57 mic and a Lexicon Alpha sound card/usb interface (just the cheapest one i could find).
But im getting the feeling that i dont fully utilize my sm57.
Is there a big difference between (cheap-mid price) sound cards/usb interfaces/mic preamps?
Like Roland/Line6/M-Audio/Lexicon, etc.
Which one is the best in your opinion?
Can you maybe find me a video that makes a similar comparison?
Thanks!

The best is the one we recomend in the sticky The Saffire 6 / Scarlett 2i4

The main difference is internal components. The better the component, the better the sound.

Thirding the Focusrite Saffire 6/Scarlett 2i4 recommendation.

I get what you're getting at (I think) but it could have been worded better.

A USB interface is a dedicated interface with at least one preamp.

You're saying like, connect a Focusrite ISA One to a Lynx AD/DA converter.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Is there something good and cheaper? Around 100$

You're correct. I apologize. But when I said "USB interface" I more was talking about something like GuitarLink (which iirc has a preamp; it's just not very good at all).

Since you live in the US, I'd recommend going on ebay and searching for either of those. I got my Saffire6 for $100. (Scarlett's will be around $150 probably.) There's generally a few people who sell like 8-12 of them for $100 a pop.

The one warning I have is, if you're recording on a PC with Windows 8, they might not be making drivers for Windows 8 for the Saffire6. Someone feel free to correct me if Focusrite decided to change their minds on that...
