I've come back to this forum a bit more recently and noticed some older faces still hanging about. We must have all grown up by now (maybe) so tell me, what do you do for a living?

I'm a sales and technical accounts manager at a software firm. Punk right?

I work as a Presentation Specialist at Target. There are days where I get paid for doing what seems like jack shit, there are days where I go home and I want to shoot myself. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd probably end up at another retail establishment, I'd quit :p

I'm a chartered civil engineer working for the worlds 4th largest privately owned water company. Although my actual job is more project management than any real engineering. Not done any of that for years....

I'm a quality assurance specialist for a medium sized manufacturing company. I inspect large construction equipment before it leaves our facility. Cranes, bulldozers, generators, air compressors, stuff like that.

I'm the IT Project Manager at a top secret military facility. If I told you any more than that I'd have to kill you.

No seriously, that's what I do. The killing part isn't true though.

I've finished law school, now i'm doing the required 18-month internship at my mom's office (she's a lawyer) to take the bar exam.

My internship officially ends January 2014, a date for the bar exam will be determined afterwards.

Semi-permanent:

special needs teacher for kindergarten.

retail associate for a store that i will not share the name of because everyone who knows about it thinks I'm lowering my standards/selling out or something. But I don't care cuz it pays really well and the hours are super flexible - i'd just rather not deal with people pretending to be disappointed in me atm

Temporary internship: working in a chemical engineering lab this summer. Hopefully also at a biotech institute but I have to email them first, which I'm trying to do now but I'm too nervous to actually send it.

Permanent: editor at the communications center at my uni

all of them are in-betweenish jobs, but I wouldn't mind teaching for a living

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

Nothing, yet.

I do have ambitions though.

I hope to own an opticians somewhere in Spain catering mainly to retired expatriates.

Also, landlord.

I'm a student off for the break so I have to part time jobs. One being a tutor at Kumon and the other cashiering at a local grocery store. The latter is rather depressing because a lot of my coworkers have been there for more than 20 years. I've been there for a week and already want to quit.

I really want to do this actually. i feel like i could make kids who hate math start liking math. in fact i want to write a math textbook for people who hate math but are forced to take a math class as a degree requirement. coauthoring it with 2 friends who pretty much find all numbers incomprehensible.

Then Kumon is not exactly the place to start. A lot of the kids don't like it when they have to do daily homework in addition to their school work. The only way to get them to like it is to have them enjoy your company while at Kumon. It's sometimes depressing to see kids doing work during their summer vacations too.
I would suggest writing that text book for high school and post secondary students. That seems like a better thing.

EDIT: Overall, the hours at Kumon are really good and the work load isn't so bad, so go for it if you want the experience.

I work retail full time now because uni was shit and the education wasn't good enough for the crazy amount of money it costs and I wanted to focus on music.

Though my job I currently have makes me want to fucking kill myself.
But I suffer from severe social anxiety so I can't get a job elsewhere.
So I will work at Safeway for the rest of my life. Yay.

I'm a student who's currently off for the summer, but am enrolled in a civil engineering program in university. Though I'm working the crappiest local full-time jobs to rack up some cash, I can't wait to hold an actual position somewhere in a company like metacarpis' job

I work in a position that is comprised of weeks, sometimes months, of tedium (Giving me plenty of time to piss away the hours here when I'm not training) interspersed with occasional travel, usually involving a few days of planning, a few hours of intense focus and a few minutes of adrenaline.

I'm on the books as a health and safety expert, which is almost as boring a title as the above is a description.

So, nothing special really, but it pays pretty well.

I'm team leader and assistant general manager at a local paper-company. Used to work in the army, but this job is cool as well as my boss is a hilarious guy, and I've got great prospect for advancement.
