These will be going in an Ibanez RGA121. I haven't bought one yet but I know that's exactly what I'll be getting as Ibanez RG + no trem + prestige narrows down the search to a hilariously low number of 1 discontinued model.

So I have to stuff pickups in this dohickey when I get it cause if the V7/V8 that come with em are like the ones that came in my current RG321, they have to go immediately. Something in the neck for uppick cleans and something in the bridge for dem power chords. And trying out pickups in a guitar store around me that aren't stock, EMGs, or unknown model DiMarzios is impossible.

Go go gadget experiences of dozens of forum readers! (or however many actually reply after reading)

What amp will I be playing this through? My MG50DFX for now, but I'll upgrade that at some point to something with vacuum light bulbs.. maybe a dsl401 or jcm 900 combo.

Maybe a SD Pearly Gates. If you were playing just punk I'd say something hotter but with ska as well not so much (unless you are talking Rancid style ska).

Btw. If you get a JCM900 drop me a line and I'll tell you how to mod it to turn it into a good amp. It isn't that difficult although it does require lifting out the circuit board and changing some components. Modded like mine they are quite a good amp but unmodded, channel two is a pile of crap. Channel 1 can also be improved too but I don't bother with that one because it isn't so bad. Channel 2 is perhaps the most ridiculous circuit ever foisted upon an unsuspecting audience.

Change your amp first. Then change the pickups. I strongly agree that the stock Ibanez pups are piles of poo, and that the suggestions above are very valid, but better to know the objective of your pup swap, than to take stabs in the darl.

it's so cool to hate Gibson, even the federal Department of Justice hates them.

This. Use the money you were going to spend on a pickup as part of your savings towards a decent amp. New pickups into that amp is a complete waste of money.

ehhh... pickups = $200 installed with setup, amp = well over double that, with a commitment to fixing whatever was broke/new tubes/etc. I've tried stock pups into a DSL401 before it was not good sounding.

ehhh, good pickups into a crap amp will sound crap. Save the $200 and save more to get a decent amp.

You can find Line 6 Flextone II/III 1x12 combos for $200-$300 used. That will help your sound more than a set of $200 pickups anyday
