Who do you guys think the major rock bands/artists of rock music have been in the last couple decades? The ones that truly captured the zeitgeist of each time. Pick 2 per decade.

Mine
50s: Elvis and Chuck Berry
60s: The Beatles and The Who (personal bias on that one, it could also probably by the Rolling Stones)
70s: Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd
80s: Guns & Roses and Bon Jovi
90s: Nirvana and Metallica (could be in 80s)
00s: RHCP and Green Day

So what do you think?

Piano dick had some good parts, but should have said "As the business man slowly gets boned", would have accented the whole dick feeling of the album

I think that your thread is bad, and you should feel bad. Seriously, like you can sum up a whole decade of music with just a few bands. Are you on crack?

Not a bad list, but it will also be shaped depending on where you grew up, and not just based on which side of the atlantic but also regional differences. For some people the 70s wouldn't have been the 70s without T-Rex and Ziggy, The Spice Girls in the 90s etc. Perhaps the 80s was more about punk rock or new wave than Van Halen.

50s jerry lee Lewis & chuck berry
60s hendrix & Beatles
70s King Crimson & the ramones
80s The Cure & Van Halen
90s Nirvana & Beck
00s Fall Out Boy & MGMT

Not necessarily my faves but I tried to put popular groups that demonstrated different ends of the spectrum. Of course for every decade there is so much music that fits outside these. I'll admit I pretty much ignored metal on this list.
