I would love to find out what types of strings everybody uses/likes/prefers/etc. Ideally the strings you prefer for playing different types of tunings.

Gauge, brand, etc. Please give me as much detail as possible. I'd like to research both the popular and unique choices you all have. Don't be afraid to tell me WHY you prefer the strings you do.

i.e. what strings for slide, fingerstyle, open/alternate tunings, etc.

I may end up compiling an article about this info if I get enough of a response here and elsewhere.

Thanks!

String threads are not allowed. Everyone has different subjective opinions and it's not very constructive at all. So, reported.

Luckily strings are cheap. Just buy some and see what you like.

Isn't it good to inquire into subjective topics so that you can learn from others? The description of this sub-forum had stings in it specifically which is why I came here to post.

What's the deal?

I don't blame you, that is misleading, but it's a fairly recent rule. Basically we just had too many types of these threads being started and ending poorly, so there's a ban on them.

"What strings/picks does everyone use?"
We're all sick of these threads by now. If you're really interested, use the search bar to find a few dozen old versions of these threads.

i would pick the alternative tuning i wanted to use first and then choose the string set that best implements that tuning by maintaining the tension on the neck.

i used ot use d'arrdario phosphor bronze heavy gauge stirngs on my acoustic but then for reasons of fingers pains i went down to medium
i recently tried out dean markely helix strings again medium and i really like them th ethigther wounds make them feel a littl esmoother on the fingers and i have lees finger noise and feel better for slide playing

edit:i like thicker stirngs cause of how htey feel in standard and they still keep they tightness when i tune down to open D G and dagdad and a few other tuning i use

in electric guitar im using d'arrdario 9s on my floyd
and 10s on shorter scales and non floating birdges
