Hey, Pit! Nice to see you all again! So I was looking on craigslist for a new band and found one that fits my style of music, sounds like they have potential and are extremely close to where I live (and looking for a bassist). The problem is, I still have yet to get a job, I'm only 18 (the rest of the band is about 24), and my gear is not gig-worthy (although that can be redeemed by the money that I get from graduation in a couple weeks).

So my question is, is that too many problems and should I not even bother because it isn't realistic or should I just go for it and potentially waste their time?
For how can I give the King his place of worth above all else
when I spend my time striving to place the crown upon myself?

You got nothin' to lose by trying out. If they're really paying attention and you are really a good fit, your skill will outshine your gear.
...it was bright as the sun, but with ten times the heat

If having a job is an issue, it's best you look for a weekend kinda band instead.
Age doesn't really matter unless they say so (though it might be an issue if they're looking to play in bars without any trouble).
Gear shouldn't be an issue if you clarify the graduation money thing with them.

Overall, I dunno. Do whatever makes you happy.

...But you'll still never be as successful as The Joshua Garcias.

Have the Joshua Garcias even produced anything? It seems that collaboration thread died.

I noticed that too. I wasn't sure on that either, actually. I think everyone willing to participate was waiting for someone to make the first move, but nobody made it because everyone was too busy waiting on someone to make the first move.

^^But that guy is reassuring.

I'm just being realistic man. Who knows when the next craigslist murderer will make a move? I just care about TS' well being man.

do it.
tell them that you're gonna be grabbing gear soon and that you want in. Surely you'll only be rehearsing for a little while anyway and won't exactly need gig ready gear

I've already been in a band so, according to that logic, I'm doomed.

The age thing is what really worries me. 24 Doesn't seem that old but really that's 6 years older than me. That's a lot of years.

im srry bro
relish thetime you have left

but seriosly do it
you have nothing to lose and if theyreat least semiserious about the band theng the age wont matter too much as long as you all get along

I picked the third option. Worst case scenario, it doesn't work out and you go your separate ways with nothing lost really.

Well they messaged me back and basically want to meet up later this week. Now I'm extremely nervous, I've never had an audition before. What should I expect?

Expect for them to expect you to blow them.

Naw dude, unless they give you something specifically to prepare just expect them to try showing/teaching you some of their stuff. Maybe have a couple cover things you know that would fit their style, show off you skills a little, and (this is important) that you can play perfectly just so you have something to play to show them.

And remember dress sharp!

Have a song that I can play perfectly? I haven't learned any actual songs of other bands in like 100 years. Also, I don't have much experience earing out things that people are playing and generally need someone to physically show me the riff? Is that gonna be a problem? This band is at like the peak of my current skill level and definitely not something I could just play like butter/improvise over. I'm so nervous.

I didn't think that dressing nice like that was expected. It's a metal band, not jazz or something. But should I?

Definitely. Can't look ugly. But sounding ugly is my real concern.

it's not really worth worrying
practice beforehand, and have faith in your abilities- you do this all the time

Give it a shot. Just be honest about the potential problems when you try out. They might be able to overlook them.
#32
Give it a shot, wouldn't hurt. Worst that could happen is that they say no and you end up exactly where you're at now. Also, 9/10 poll. Good on ya, TS.

Just take cupcakes and sunny d for the band, no one can resist cupcakes and sunny d!

Also, if you got a tattoo of the band's name beforehand, that'll show 'em you're serious about your art and dedicated to the cause.

Well it's only like 100 watts I think and that totally doesn't seem like enough.

presumably this audition isn't going to be in an auditorium
I don't know what a 100 watt bass amp can do, but you probably don't need too much volume
or you could just bring a DI thingy and an xlr and any other gadgets you fancy and go into the PA
