Ok guys, I know I can't be the only one who starts to have riff/melody ideas as I'm drifting off to sleep, particularly when right before you fall asleep and you almost start to think without logic/ dream while being awake. Does anyone have any advice on how to have a similar state of mind without forcing yourself to get little sleep etc ? Maybe meditation?

Get out of bed. Attempt to write song. Forget song in process.

Or grab your phone and sing whatever riff into it. Listen the next day and realise that it's either useless or crap.

Both are acceptable approaches.
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.

Keith Richards wrote one of his songs - I think it was "Satisfaction" - while passed out. He woke up, saw that the tape recorder he had next to him was full, rewound it, and listened ... two minutes of the signature riff, and the rest of the tape of him snoring.

sleep deprivation helps me a lot with the creative process

it also makes me go out of my goddamn mind tho so i wouldn't recommend it

You win. I'm done here.

Increasing theta waves in the brain chemistry will do that, can be done via binaural or what not, a general sinewave would probably work better

This plus staying up late should get the juices flowing.

Maybe throw in some bath salts here and there too.
