Hi. I've purchased a variety of Distortion pedals.
Will be keeping two and selling two.
I've sold the distortion pedals I do not like, leaving the following four.
Would like your opinion(s) towards the following four DISTORTION pedals:

* Digitech Hardwire TL-2 Metal Distortion
* Digitech "Metal Master" Heavy Metal Distortion
* EHX Electro Harmonix Metal Muff with Top Boost
* MXR M115 Distortion III

I own them all. I like them all. They all fit for the music I play.
But, I need to sell two and keep two (trimming down the inventory).

Please let me know"which of the above four Distortion pedals:
1) you have played and really like (and why)?
2) you have played and DIS-like (and why)?

Your opinions will be very helpful towards my decisions as I've only played
them a few months. Obviously, have not experienced structural issues,
defects, or inline signal issues that you may have run into.

Thanks for your experienced comments.

They are all fantastic pedals.

What type of music do you play?

I found the Digitechs too metal though. I play classic rock so I sold them.

The metal muffin is still in my chain. It beats tube distortion any day. The top boost is really over the top. I kept it.

MXR makes good stuff but I have never played it.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

Played them all, found them all artificial and unpleasant sounding. Metal Muff is the most usuable of the lot.

I really liked the vemuram jan ray. Definitely worth the money.

Sell the digitch because they are awful, the metal muff isn't bad as a fuzz though I never played with the mxr but the digitech are terabad.

IMHO, the Hardwire and the MXR are the only redeemable pedals of the four, but in all honesty why does it matter what we think. If you must get rid of two even though you like them all I am sure that you can form your own opinions without our input. Yet again this is another Toppscore stereotypical thread where you ask for our opinion and then make rash, spontaneous decisions with no logical reason.

But why in God's name did you purchase 4 metal distortion pedals? You could have easily tested them all in almost any guitar store.

And yes I know your response. I purchased them on eBay!!!!!

Digitech Hardwire TL-2 Metal Distortion

tried. too fizzy.

* Digitech "Metal Master" Heavy Metal Distortion

haven't tried.

* EHX Electro Harmonix Metal Muff with Top Boost

tried. not bad, but hard to dial in. can be very ice-picky or too dull.

* MXR M115 Distortion III

not really a high gain distortion, more of a high gain overdrive. not bad, but it's not in the metal camp.

i use a weehbo bastard which is pretty awesome. sell all your pedals and check out weehbo dirtboxes.

You've got them all, shouldn't you figure out which ones you like best?

OK. I checked out Suhr Riot and the reviews are great.

Yes, I own the four and like the four.
I got rid of the Digitech Grunge & Boss MD-2 Mega D

I have these four to be within the price range for this year and economy.
Looks like the Digitechs are getting dissed a bit more, we shall see.

Music I like and am beginning to work on:
ZZ Top, Judas Priest, Megadeath, RTrower, Motorhead,
Metalica, Sabbath, Van Halen, Tool, Gov't Mule, AC/DC,
Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed ~ etc.

My past equipment is/was setup more for classic rock,
blues & blues rock; adding some surf & rockabilly.

Thanks for the Metal Muff comments.
I tell you all to take a good sound check with the MXR Distortion III.
The Digitechs seem good, as my new pedal chain allows for tone adjuetments.

Definitely, down the road I'll step up to the $200-$400 pedals, just not now.
#17
I've owned a Digitech Metal Master & I can honestly say it can produce a very nasty metal tone - Similar to Boss HM-2.
It does unfortunately create a ****ING VERY VERY STUPID HUM that just turns to a distorted mess at loud volumes.

For the type of music you play I really would go check out a Proco Turbo Rat & a Marshall Shredmaster. They produce a very very good distortion without sounding like shit through an amp. They both keep some of the dynamics in your playing too.

I never got to really use the metal master a band mate had it but yeah it did hum like a bitch. I can vouch for turbo rat, as long as you keep the volume and distortion below 2 o'clock it sounds fine and is fairly responsive. It's not that great at the Marshall type sound though.

Naked Shriveled Wennie in the Rain.

What the **** is your point of your stupid (or ignorant) ****ing comments
if you have already made up your shriveled weenie fried mind??

Yo! I asked about the four I have, not the 4,000,000 other ones.
Weenie Brains in the Rain, this thread has no pictures for you to
figure things out . . . . Muff Brain.

I am not buying others at this time. The four sound good.
Many members like some of them. UG Reviews like them.

Out of 16,000,000 million Ultimate Guitar Members and
over 7,000,000,000 theads, you gotta land on this one
and get your wet shriveled weenie wanked (spanked).

Now . . . . back to this thread's topic . . . . hopefully with one less Naked Weenie.

Interesting. Problem is, Greeny, is that to sell again, I gotta pay
EBay Paypal and freaking shipping fees. So, two is enough and
hope to break even and gain from playing them.

I have not had serious humming on any pedals I really like.
My Boss NS-2 kills a ton of noise, and switching from
single coil guitars to humbuckers guitars also kills lots of noise/humm.

Proco Turbo Rat. Is now in my notes.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
Can you name a famous song with the Turbo Rat?

What amp do you use these distortion pedals through?

I use three in particular:

*1983 Fender Concert II, 1x12 60w, Paul Rivera Era
with a ton of Lee Jackson modifications and others mods.
* 1968 Fender Showman Reverb Amp Head, 85w
* 1964 Fender Twin Reverb, 4x10 40w
Sometimes I mess around with my 1960 Fender Super Amp, 2x10 40w

There are photos of all my amps and guitars in my Ultimate Guitar page.

I know I need to get a 2x12 combo amp for the distortion I want,
but, first things first. Down the road I'll investigate distortion amps.

I agree. What do you like? I've been investigating amps
with triple rectifiers like the Mesa Boogie.
Have never played Marshalls.
Also, Trainwreck & Dumble clones sound cool.

Fender has three on my mind:
* The VibroKing
* 100w SuperSonic
* Machete

Mostly, I want my distortion amp(s) to have lots of power tubes,
and less solid state. But, time will tell.

you haven't answered my question. all you've done is let loose a slew of personal attacks.

so i'll ask you again, spelling it out as clearly as i can.

in response to your question:

Please let me know"which of the above four Distortion pedals:
1) you have played and really like (and why)?
2) you have played and DIS-like (and why)?

Your opinions will be very helpful towards my decisions as I've only played
them a few months. Obviously, have not experienced structural issues,
defects, or inline signal issues that you may have run into.

Thanks for your experienced comments.

we gave our opinions. to which you replied:

Thanks for the Metal Muff comments.
I tell you all to take a good sound check with the MXR Distortion III.
The Digitechs seem good, as my new pedal chain allows for tone adjuetments.

which shows that you are not willing to change your opinions in response to other, new, information.

this is fine. more power to you.

however, starting a new thread with the ostensible intent of using the input of other people to help clarify or modify your opinions, and then ignoring the comments and staying at your initial opinions regardless of what's said is not very conducive to progress. which means your threads amount to little more than spam.

so, i'll ask the question again.

what is the point of making these threads if you're just going to ignore the advice given and stick to your guns?

This is the answer to 99% of UG threads.

& TBH I have to agree with NakedInTheRain, what's the point in creating a thread asking peoples opinions & then going off online reviews?

One point on online reviews, ignore them. Try it yourself & see.
Most audio 'demos' are incredibly good at making any pedal sound fantastic. I'd ignore them too.
