6505 2x12 combo or 6505+ 1x12 combo?

The 2x12 is really good for heavy styles, sux for cleans and is heavy as hell

The 1x12 is alright, but nothing special, cleans are a little better than the 2x12, but are still not that great. But if you want 5150/6505 tones cheap this is the way to go.

If it's anything like the 5150 combo, it's going to be heavy.
you probably can't lift it.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

I think TS is getting a 112. It's lighter. I can't remember how much lighter though.

2x12 is a heavy bitch.

Compared to the 2x12 I would think it would be substantial.

The 112 is big and heavy, but it's manageable. It's nowhere near the monstrosity that is the 212. That thing should have never been made, or at least not released from the factory without casters like the JC120.

I'm not gunna lie here, I hated my 6505+. Not only because I thought the cleans sucked, but the distortion channel was REALLY fizzy with the presence all the way up, and REALLY bland with the presence at around 8. It was like the presence knob did nothing in the 1-7 range and then it all hit at around 8-9. It seemed to be the same way with the resonance knob...And all the EQ knobs, for that matter. They seemed "stepped." The gain knob was the same way. Very little gain up until about 2-3, then, BAM! It hits you. It's a fairly smooth transition after 3, but it's still lightly stepped. I'm not sure if I just got a shitty, one-of-a-kind 6505+, but I thought it really sucked.

The clean channel was just god-awful, in my opinion. Just plain terrible, to me. I wouldn't have used it live if you paid me. Maybe I'm just really picky, but it was not worth the $600 I paid for it to me.

^ Sounds like it didn't have JJs in it.

Don't expect it to sound amazing without some effort. Seems a lot of people are into or recommend swapping out the tubes and putting a new speaker in for that particular amp. Even considering a new set of speakers for my 212.

Everyone had a price. I'm sure that if you were paid enough, you'd play with a Squire through a 100 watt Spider 3 on the Insane model. with all the mids scooped out.

My old Valveking is stupidly heavy for the shitty little handle. The 6505 is brutal

Valveking Weight Unpacked: 64.50 lb(29.257 kg)

6505 Weight Unpacked: 84.50 lb(38.329 kg)

Ohh my. That is stupidly heavy.

Speaking as someone who has owed both the 6505 head and now the 112 combo id say that on a whole you will be as pleased with the combo as you would be with the head as you wont really know the difference. i myself only notice slight differences.

the combo is made in china and the head in the US thats one of the reasons why its cheaper.

My advice is unless you have a decent cab and need the full 120w of power for big gigs and you can move a stack around get the 112 combo as the tone from it is immense for the price you pay.

I changed the tube in it for EHX ones as the stock ones werent anything special, this is a job you can do yourself as the power tubes are fixed bias so you can swap them like for like ( they are 6L6's fyi)

I have never played an amp i like more for high gain and ive played alot Engls, mesa, diezel, splawn, H&K and randalls. im not saying that these werent good but there is a reason that a large majority of the metal scene use 6505's because its such a good sound.

buy one you will not regret it.
