Too lazy to rewrite everything, so I'll copy my SSO post over to here. Boom.

So I got my first 7 yesterday. And I already feel that I don't wanna go back to six strings. The 7 feels so natural and I just love it.
It's also my first Epiphone
And guitar with actives
and more than 21 frets
and a killswitch
and real binding

I got the Epiphone MKH Les Paul Custom 7.
Specs:
Body mahogany
Top plain maple veneer
Neck mahogany
Neck Profile 1960's SlimTaper™; D profile
Neck Joint glued in at deep-set neck joint with "Axcess" heel
Truss Rod adjustable
Truss Rod Cover 2-ply (black/white); "MKH Les Paul Custom" in white
Fingerboard ebony
Fingerboard inlay pearloid block inlays
Radius 12"
Frets 22 medium jumbo
Scale Length 24.75"
Nut width 1 7/8"
Binding -Body Top - 7 ply (white/black)
-Headstock - 5 ply (white/black)
-Fingerboard - 1 ply (white)
Pickups -EMG-707 (neck), EMG-81-7 (bridge),(pickups are powered by a 9 volt battery accessible on the back of guitar)
Controls Black Speed Knobs
-neck volume
-neck tone w/KillPot
-bridge volume
-bridge tone
Bridge Tune-o-matic-7/Stopbar
Output Jack heavy duty Epiphone 1/4" non-rotating
Machine Heads deluxe die-cast with black metal tulip buttons 14:1
Color ebony (gloss)

Was supposed to have a Black nut, but I'm glad it didn't provides some contrast imo.

The weather outside sucks, so I'll get outside pics another day, for now, here it is!

The axcess heel is impressive, higher fret access is so easy. Love it. I really dig the pickups too, I was never a huge fan of actives, but these ones have sold me. The Rhythm tone pot doubles as a killswitch, which I will be whoring in the upcoming days. It has an easy access compartment for the 9V which is also handy.

I'll get a rough recording together tonight I hope, if I have the time.

Basically a flawless guitar.

My only qualm is I got of the extra stuff I was supposed to, ie the certificate or straplocks. I have to call in about those tomorrow. I was running super late yesterday and they're closed today. So yeah.

Overall I love this thing and will definitely get another 7.

Played for about 3 or 4 straight hours last night with no hand fatigue or anything, this is my new favourite guitar. I still love my tele, but this thing is a beast.

I'll be posting a soundclip later today. The quality isn't the best, it'll be done in Pro Tools with the 11 Free plugin. But ti'll give you a rough idea on the sound.

Indeed it does.

I still have to tweak my tone on my half stack. And the clip I have is by no means the best example, but once I finish it it'll give you a good idea of the tone

The MKH LP Customs look absolutely awesome.

I've always wondered how that guitar maintains enough string tension though. It's only 24.75" so the low B string must be massive.

I loved it when I saw it hanging on the wall waiting for me, looks much better in person!

The low be doesn't feel much thicker than maybe a 56. I use 52's normally and it doesn't feel massive at all.

When I get back from school I'll break out my callipers and check it though, now you've got me wondering.

Awesome

Love 7 string LPs.

I cant imagine the scale length is too big an issue, just ramp up the gauge

Some players see it necessary with LP's ramp the gauge up to a 13-60 on LP's just for drop B, let alone any lower.

Not that it's a serious issue, it's just not too convenient to need to specially order strings that heavy every string change.

60 isnt that heavy, especially when you think its going to be running close to that as its a 7 anyway

I've used Ernie Balls for years and years. EB don't supply a gauge that heavy readily.

I'll find out whats on these and get back to you. I don't think they're anything mroe than a 12 though. They're still easily bendable, and the low B is by no means a very thick string. Nothing close to a 70, 60 may be pushing it. But the tension is just right for me, still tight, but kind of slack. It's got the right mix of both

They released one years ago.

Now this is the only one on their roster I think

EB Goes up to a 58 for the Low B on seven string sets. Anything bigger you have to buy an 8 or single packs

Sweet guitar! Don't really like LPs but the neck heel on that looks actually enjoyable. For the record, Ernie Ball make a baritone set that is 13-72. Six string set, but add that in with a 10, you could have an extreme feel of skinny top and massive bottom. May mean you have 4 plain strings rather than 4 wound I dunno.

Thanks guys!

I really have fallen in love with the active pickups in this. Hopefully I'll be able to get some better recordings once I get better gear than Garageband and my rockband mic, so they might be coming fairly soon.

This guitar has 100% replaced y tele as my main. Playing it feels so natural

For $500 i'd pick up another one. Or even pick up the 6 string version of this at some point.
