Hey all,

I'm fairly new to playing and am wanting to upgrade to a better amp.

Wanting a tube amp, used is fine.

Play with Epiphone Les Paul.

Like to play all kinds of songs, but mainly classic rock and blues. Want a decent clean sound also.

Probably no more than $300.

Live in the Kansas City area.

A friend recommended a used VHT or Jet City.

Any help would be appreciated.

Peavey VTM 1x12 combo
Peavey Ultra 1x12

these are a few to look at. The Jet City would be good for the classic rock but it is 1 channel (if it is the jca 20h/2112

For Classic Rock and blues look into a Peavey ValveKing 112.

+1 to Jet City, though you'll have to work with it a lot more, and I don't know how dynamic it is.

Fender Excelsiors are pretty sweet little things. They only have one channel but get some really nice grit and the tremolo on it is pretty good as well.

I have a Laney VC30 and it does low gain and cleans great. I don't know if you can find one for under $300.

I second this. No idea on US prices, but I recently bought the 210 version (used) in the UK for £350, including an additional 112 cab.

Also, the Jet City JCA22H/50H have two channels (Crunch & Overdrive), which makes them somewhat more versatile than the single channel version mentioned above.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/In-Store-Used-USED-PEAVEY-CLASSIC-50-2X12-108700305-i3084739.gc a little over. the 4x10 is the same price

http://kansascity.craigslist.org/msg/3864942900.html this looks like it was modded to just a head.

http://lawrence.craigslist.org/msg/3801152833.html nearby-ish. maybe you could separate them.

basically the classic series in my favorite amp in the low price range for blues, jazz, rock, etc. they're loud, durable, sound great, and cheap.

These amps can be found for $300 and are great amps. But none on your CL right now...

Holy shit, I wish I was close enough to pick up that 6505. It's a terrible amp for blues, but seriously, buy that thing and fix it.

The JCA22/50's still don't have a clean channel though. The 50 might have enough headroom to get a passable clean but the 22 isn't going to sound very clean at anything louder than a whisper.

Cleans only at a whisper is probably exaggerating, but yeah, it still isn't a clean channel. That's the only reason I didn't buy one.

Was just pointing out an extra bit of info for an amp someone else suggested though, it's great for everything else.

I have the JCA20 which is the same as the cleaner of the 2 channels on the 22 and it doesn't take much volume before it starts breaking up. A whisper is exaggerating for sure, but if you plan on playing with other people especially a drummer, it's not going to cut it, as far as cleans go.

It is pretty good for anything else though, I do agree. I love my JCA20H

Fender Excelsiors or Champion 600

If you get the Champ, you'll have to spend a little on replacing the speaker and tubes

I don't think the champ would be ideal. Its a 5f1, isn't it? 5f1's are great amps, but i don't think it would be the best option.

I did say it earlier, the but Peavey classic 30 would be a good choice. Good tone all around, extremely reliable and not hard to find in budget.
