I recently was given an epiphone sst chet atkins guitar by a friend of mine. He couldn't figure out the problem, and neither could I. First, there is a consistant hum that goes away whenever i touch the jack. i think this is a grounding/shielding issue. the other thing is that the guitar barely registers low frequencies. It sounds fine with anything on the B string or higher, but is very quiet and tinny sounding on anything lower than the G string. I'd appreciate all the help i could get because I know verry little about electric guitars. Thanks!

The whole thing should probably be resoldered.

Definitely sounds like the pickups are wired incorrectly., personally i'd resolder the lot.
