Hey guys!

Recently, I wanted to do a cover and started learning . Love that one...
Anyway.. I tap a lot... That's kind of the lazy/clumsy guy's speed cheat. It seems easier (for me at least) to tap fast and clean than to pick that sort of stuff. Usually, I use tapping for fast licks in the high registers. The Philosopher has this intro lick, which goes like this:

I can't seem to play this lick without the high D (it's a full tone down tuning) string ringing out. I can't pull off anything with my index finger (7p-0, 8p-0 etc) without touching the neighboring string.

How do you guys deal with it? I figure you could try and use the picking hand to try and mute the neighboring strings with fingers not required for tapping, but that feels really awkward. Any suggestions?

Right hand resting on lower strings muting them. Left hand muting higher strings. Look up freepowers youtube vods on muting for basic mechanics.

^ That is all you need to know really, just make a conscious effort to practicing that.

Left hand muting doesn't work that well if you have to use your index finger..
