Hello there thank you for opening this up. I'm looking for a used bass under 400. I've gone to a guitar center by my house on different occasions and haven't found anything. Also, I've looked on eBay but really haven't found much in my tight price range. I'm not looking for any model in particular, however I'd like something before 1985. I know I dont have very many options due to my price range. But, I did find this jazz bass: [forbidden link] this isn't necessarily the "one" or anything just an idea. What is your opinion on it? And, do you know of any other places I could find basses in my range not new? Thank you, much appreciated.

you might wanna cruise around some local pawn shops. they're cheap and usually full of beginner gear, but there are gems out there, and you're more likely to find some vintage stuff an ex-muso-gone-heroin-addict or asshole-grandson-who-sold-all-his-dead-grandpa's-shit dropped off for a few bucks

What kind of music are you going to be playing? Might help to narrow it down a little.

Bassists don't hover on the forum day and night like guitarists. We've got lives to lead, music to play and whiskey to drink.

I'd rather go at my hands with a hacksaw than play lead guitar, and I'm only slightly exaggerating.

Dollars, I expect. Since his profile says he's in Texas.

I'd probably look at Jazz basses first. Mexican Fenders or Squiers. Peavey, Ibanez and Yamaha make some very good starter basses too. If you can find a Peavey T-40, they're very versatile. Somebody on Youtube picked one up for $200 once.

Do you need an amp?
