like the title says my 5150ii's fx loop is NOISY AS HELL!!! no matter what i run through it i get noise. even with a ns 2 in the loop it still gives the same hum
here is a video

anyone have an experience like this with these loops before?

if it cant get fixed ill sadly consider parting ways with this for a mesa single rec. i just like my equipment to work.

Going from left to right looking at the back of the amp, the fx loop tube is the second one in the row.

ive done some reading.......the fx loop is kinda just "there" in the circuit. some reports of having to resolder the fx loop jacks and some reports of the problem just existing without a real means to fix it. wth?!???!??!?!

on a side note i have found a mesa single rec for a decent price. would this be a good or on par replacement for the 5150? i play mostly van halen, ozzy, killswitch, coheed, AIC, type tunes. id hate to get rid of it but i want to use my fx loop for modulation and eventually a small rack and i cant do that with the ridiculous humming coming from this amp

Make a what amp thread!

You should definitely replace the FX loop tube before you get flustered and jump the gun though.

nah no new amp thread for me im just gonna save up for one lol

so after swapping the tube and messing with some more cables. i found that my two 20 ft cables in the fx loop sorta fix the issue. this is sorta hard to explain. so if the cables lay a certain way the buzz goes away but if you pick them up and move them around the buzz is on. nothing but the middle of the cable moves neither jacks are affected by the movement. check this vid i did it shows the issue

The cable issue honestly sounds like the effects loop tube at fault if you haven't changed it

already changed it. i had a jj ec83s and now an electro harmonix 12ax7eh. a very subtle change if anything. i just find it strange that the humming goes away while moving cables plus these cables are brand new. im stumped

i recon it's a radio frequency issue, might be due to the design of the effects loop (i get it with poorly shielded cables or multi cores on my Jet City)
