Hi all,
We've had an unusually high number of 'summer friends' join us this year, and the forum quality has suffered a bit due to some lack of awareness of rules and expectations. We want you all to find the help you need and become a part of the community, but it's important to maintain some standards of content and basic usefulness.

Please take the time to read the full forum rules in the Rules and Resources sticky, but mostly here's a short reminder list of the most common problems:

Necrobumping. If you are searching through the archives, please take a look at the thread date before you post. If the thread is more than a month or two old, please don't post in it unless there's a very good reason (e.g., you started the thread and there's been an update.) If you really have something to say or ask about the subject, start a new thread.
Technique threads. We want you to get better at guitar! Please ask any questions about learning guitar, practice, playing, etc in the Guitar Techniques Forum.
Low-content or opinion posts. Please don't just post half a line asking what the best guitar is, or two sentences about how you like stratocasters. Have a question; be specific; give us information. It helps us give good answers, and it keeps the forum useful for people who need help. Please don't post a thread in which the only content is a youtube video.
Multiple threads. Please don't make multiple threads on the same topic, and especially don't copy and paste one thread to multiple subforums Take a minute to make sure it's in the right place and you'll get the help you need.

Temporarily, the mods are going to be giving warnings for not following these rules. We've had a big rash of necrobumps and subpar content recently and we want to make sure that it doesn't turn into the norm.

Please feel free to post here or send a private message if you have any questions.

I'm happy to answer any questions via PM as well.
Feel free to call me Kyle.

Just so you know, I read everything you type in a Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs voice.

I mean in Kyle's case, it is in the best interest of mankind that he impregnate anything that looks at him funny...
I think it should be added that IF YOU HAVE SMALL/QUICK QUESTIONS that you usually get quicker and better replies in the large threads, such as the Stratocaster Lovers or The Offical Les Paul threads than if you started your own. Here are some links to the more popular ones.

I did a search for info on my guitar and to check other owner's opinions. I found one that was from 2012. I didn't notice it was that old but still what difference does it make. I left a reply and then I get a warning for doing so? If someone else does a search like I did and finds my update to the subject isn't that maybe helping them out? I didn't "bump" it...I just replied. If it's that old then why is it still listed. Dump it to make room if that's what's needed. Giving warnings for replying to a post doesn't seem fair to me. RC
The difference it makes is that the topic is dead. Reviving a random thread to add a little bit of information doesn't help anyone; you're talking to yourself. We have a lot of "Brand" threads that are active for years, where people can post information whenever they like. If you really have something useful to say, use or start one of those threads. We try to index them so that they stay relevant and searchable. Bumping a specific question thread with vaguely relevant information just bumps down threads that are still being discussed.

I can see your argument that you were just posting information, but we have far too many people who show up, bump three threads that were answered a year ago, then leave feeling they're helping. That doesn't add anything of value, so we try to centralize our knowledge in those brand threads and not bump threads that were just one person asking a simple question a year ago.

And yes, you did bump it. Replying bumps a post, every time.
Maybe you'd have better results if this thread were titled: "New Members- NO NECRO!"
Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Sturgeon's Revelation: “Ninety percent of everything is crap.”

Why, yes, I am a lawyer- thanks for asking!

Log off and play yer guitar!

Strap on, tune up, rock out!
Unfortunately I think anyone who knows what that means already knows not to do it. It seems most necros are from new folks who sign up and do a search for their favorite gear so they can talk about it. They don't think to check the date.
whats the point of a forum if you are closing all the threads and banning all the users?
even if you want to link to an old closed thread, it creates a "forbidden link" instead
mods arent even starting a new thread based on the new 'bump'... only somekind of conveyer warning system...
all in the name of somekind of necro illusion...
We are not closing all the threads. We are closing a select few, for reasons explained either in the rules or in those threads.
We aren't banning all the users. We have 4.5 million users and a fraction of a percent of them have been banned, again for reasons clearly laid out in the rules.

We'll continue to enforce the rules that keep this forum running smoothly. Bumping a thread from 2007 when you already have one from yesterday active is silly and counterproductive. Just because you didn't read the rules or don't understand a rule doesn't mean it's an illusion. That rule was created in response to community input. Our users don't want you bumping old threads.
based on this thread, you had a problem with certain type of threads and users, but now are enforcing the same necro illusion on every thread...
The rules are clear. If you think that's an illusion then I guess that's your issue. You're welcome to go elsewhere or start your own forum if you don't like ours.
You should just rename this thread to "New User Rules."
