I was offered one for my Peveay Triple XXX I have up on Craigslist. I don't know much on amps, so I wanted to know if I should jump on it. With the quick youtube videos, I find it to be a bit lacking on the bottom (Which is super important since I play 7 strings), but it could just be crappy Youtube output doing that to me.

I was planning to sell it for a Carvin V3M as I'm starting to like the idea of a rack and it's easily rackmountable. I couldn't find anything about what the Marshall goes for, but I wouldn't mind flipping it providing it can yeild more than $450 USD (What I have my Peavey for).

What exactly are you playing? Just from the fact that you use a 7 string, I'd be willing to bet that neither the DSL nor the V3M are good choices for you.

The best I can describe it is a mix of Slayer, Megadeth, and Nevermore.

I liked most of the demo's of the V3M that I heard

I'm not too worried about wattage either, I know the Marshall and Carvin are both 50 watts.

Oh I see.

What don't you like about the XXX? I'd recommend one for that stuff.

I hated the V3M I played. Go for it if you like fizz.

The DSL would be good. Use a boost for Nevermore.

Not sure on nevermore but the DSL will do slayer and megadeath just fine.

They go for more than 450 over here in LA. I see them from 500 to 700.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

It's a huge pain to move around since it's so heavy. And the channel switching is barely possible since they never like to go to the clean channel.

In the Marshall thread, in the description of the DSL, they said that it handled low tunings fairly well (dropped C, I mainly play in B flat). I do have a couple of boosts if they can give it more edge.

IMO the DSL doesn't have to hide from most modern high gain amps in terms of balls and punch, not even low end actually if you dial it in right and maybe use a TS or similar pedal in front.

Never played a Carvin V3, but they seem to be kind of too soft/flabby/tame sounding in all the clips I've heard so far, but then again, those are just clips.

I have a DSL100 and it has plenty of bottom-end, my bass is set to 7-8 and it is really big sounding. I'd be confident to say it will keep up with a recto with useable amounts of low-end. A TS pedal will open the amp up a lot, I use 2 sometimes.
