Progress on my multiscale 7 string ormsby guitar. Rosewood top with blackwood body and ebony fingerboard. Neck and headstock will be bound. Body pops enough as it is!

Body and finger board cut

Had the last minute options of selecting some Mac ebony, but the rosewood tickled my fancy just a little bit more. Here they are with a meths wipe to get a general idea what the finished product should reflect.

Here's the top getting bookmatched

Headstock and body top cut

Binding dried
We had the option of sharp or rounded points...
I'll be coming for your new born child with this headstock.

Patiently awaiting the finer detailing and continued build now

Here's some juicy pics of the group run necks roughly cut

Only one of them is mine haha. The base price was not outrageous but a handful of little things on top of it for my individual tastes added funds but well worth it. I'll be taking this guitar into my next life! Old enough to have a little pool of play money now too always helps.

This is looking like it's going to be immense.

Here's some of the other guys tops... ziricote, myrtle, ebony and lastly burl. The lighter bodys are Ash, the darker more yellow are blackwood.

More finer detail: additional bindings and also ready for truss rods. How good is the asian ebony neck, top left!!

Perry radiusing fretboards

Holy guacamole. Fretboard for one of the others of the group.

Hand wound pickups being made!

Here's some video progress too!

Haters, please observe the Ormsby Anti-gap rout (tm)

Now for the ultimate test. Haters continue:
Ormsby Test.
noun
1. the means by which the presence, quality, or genuineness of anything is determined; a means of trial.
2. the trial of the quality of something: to put to the test.
3. a particular process or method for trying or assessing.
4. official test for ensuring the neck joint of a guitar is tight enough to hold the body suspended, without glue or mechanical fixings.

Antonym: Fender test. Gibson test.

Rusty: we are doing a little bevel there for comfort since there is no carved top or rounded end like an RG.

Moar! added binding to top and neck fit

You know, Ormsby used to be a regular here. He hasn't been here in a while.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Any particular reason you chose to have a bolt on neck?

Never thought about it to be honest and didn't inquire, this is limited run with several others of the similar build as well so some specs were fixed. Being a local to Ormsby there never any doubt as to the quality anyway. He's a perfectionist.

The Ormsby neck pocket is tighter than an everyday guitar therefore maintaining tonality (see above for the pocket tests!). I like to think it's the best of both. Plus with a headstock like that, i'll be sure to require a replacement after performing multiple abortions (i dubbed it the womb broom) so bolt on is rather fitting

Don't get me wrong, I certainly like the appeal of neck through with different woods, it's quite attractive!
However I opted for the same wood in the neck and body (blackwood to be precise - with tonal properties between mahogany and ash), so with the additional of the rosewood top any aesthetic gain from a varied wood combination with a neck through would not have mattered.

It's definitely well rounded with plenty of attention to detail. I couldn't be happier with the progress and often find myself with an erection in public as I day dream about the final product.

Sweet! I'd prefer a reverse of that headstock though.

Ormsby's business must've really taken off. He hasn't posted in ages so he's probably super busy!

Didn't look good with the fan. Also someone recently copied it for a DIY project and went the other way. After seeing that I'm glad it is the way it is.

That snakewood + walnut build is my favourite (sorry OP)

can't wait to see them finished!

Forearm bevel options. Mines on the bottom. Loving that rosewood/blackwood contrast.
