More specifically, if your band is not on the bill, do you go to local shows to see local bands play? If so, do you end up liking the bands?

I'm about to head out to watch a friend's band and it's the first time I've gone to a local show that I haven't played in in years. I'm kinda snobby about the music I like and 99% of the time the local bands just don't do it for me at all. I probably won't like this band much either, but their drummer is a good friend of mine and this is their first show so w/e.

If randomly seeing a local band play at the bar, then yes, I see local bands. And I usually like it.

I make music sometimes.

There isn't really any kind of a scene here. I was gonna go when I was bored with friends but no one was ever playing at the venue.

My local venue rarely has anyone worth seeing. I think Black Stone Cherry sold out in one day, and thats the biggest name in years.

Been twice to see my friends old band, they were pretty good to be honest.

Around the area where I live when I'm not in college there are usually only one or two 'consistently' (once a month) gigging bands, and the two I can think of off the top of my head, I don't like. I get sick of the pop punk and classic rock rip offs, but I have heard some metal, acoustic, and light rock bands that I enjoy.

However when I had a band and I did gigs, I ended up enjoying the bands I shared the stage with, and I would go see them on their individual local gigs I wasn't related to. I'm going to see a band I used to play with and two of my friends/ex band members are in that band now, and there are 4 or 5 other local/regional bands I haven't heard before, so I'm excited for that.

Only once, but a former bandmate of mine was on vox/guitar. I was interested in joining his band at the time and I was trying to emphasize my interest.

You could say two shows if you count the time I went to another of that same ex-bandmate's shows without any intent to play, but he injured his fretting-hand immediately prior during one of the other acts and couldn't play guitar.

He ended up remembering I was there and he invited me up. I didn't go to the show with any intent to play at all, but I did anyways. I knew the set well-enough.

Think Back to the Future Part 1 when Marty takes the stage at the dance. No, I did not go Johnny B. Good-crazy, but thinking back: I wish I did.

Anyways, I got in the band as a replacement-guitarist for a while he healed up and sang-exclusively, but I had to move out of town with my family. Such are the pains of being in a teenage-band.

We have really good local music in Blacksburg and the community surrounding it is super fun. So yeah, lots of local shows, and I'm dancing my ass off with the rest of the crowd at most. I have a band too and the vibes at shows are pretty thrilling on my end

Not as often as I would like - a coffee shop set here, a cheap indie show there, with the occasional festival thrown in...

Weirdly, the tornadoes that struck Moore were among the best things that ever happened for Oklahoma's local music scene.

Once a week at least, only because I frequent the same pub all the time so odds are there is something going on.

I go to local shows all the time. Some I know, some I've heard, some I've heard of, some I was told to check out. The rest of the US makes fun of Cleveland, but Cleveland has an excellent, very supportive music scene. Sure there's some douchy bands but there's dozens of bands here that crank out some sweet tunes and put on a helluva show.

Majority of the bands in my area are the same old metalcore bands.

Wait, no. All of them are generic metalcore bands and the majority are shit.

Most bands in my area are awful. I usually only go to my friends' shows who, oddly enough, are some of the few decent ones.

I used to go see all the Florida DM bands back in the early to mid 80's because I lived in the middle of it.

There is a band shell on the boardwalk a few blocks from my house now where they do free concerts. I don't go though.

there was a football etc show here like a week ago and i know about it until the next day

Not so much. I have a couple of friends that play in different bands, at least once a week somewhere. I get mad because I know I play way better than they do but more mad at myself because they're up on stage, and i'm getting drunk at the bar, again.

Yeah, if I haven't seen them before, and a decent amount of people are going. I always have a good time but rarely is the music any good tbh, I don't usually go to a show with bands I've already heard.
#30
Fairly regularly, yes. If I've got nothing to do and there are bands playing in one of our city's clubs or venues, I'm definitely there. I guess I enjoy about 50% of the bands that are playing and am blown away by about 2%. But still it's always nice to see locals playing music and I like supporting them.

Occasionally. I'll usually listen to some of their music first (if possible) to see if I'm even interested.

A lot of the local bands have (over the past few years anyway) been influenced by August Burns Red (they're local, so yeah). I don't like that sort of stuff, so I haven't been to as many lately.
#36
Not really. I'm just not into the scene here. Most of the bars here book indie bands or country artists, and I'm just not into either style of music. When the bar does book a metal band, it's the same worn-out metalcore bands that rehash songs and just try to incite pits in places there shouldn't be pits. I'd love to see a good prog metal show or a good thrash show here, but the local venues just don't book bands who play that music.

A lot of the time, I go out purely to have a drink and just to socialise. There're usually bands playing at the places I tend to go to but I rarely enjoy what I hear, really not a fan of the scene - lots of punk and ska.

Damn that would be great here.
