Hey guys, I'm on the road, and in the middle of nowhere Mississippi when one of my Power tubes seems to have gone(it'snot even really lit up, some weird volume swells). Luckily, I carry a matched quad I got for a good price with me when I my band tours. Unluckily, I forgot my multimeter

I'm spending the next two nights with friends and their father has one lying around, but it doesn't measure in mVs. Is there ANY way to make it work with this meter? Even though I deserve it, I don't want to have to buy another one because I was stupid.

Thanks guys.

Just put the tubes in and wait till you get home. Your amp will be fine and you can bias it when you get back. Just be sure that there is nothing else wrong with the amp that caused it to blow.

I just don't want to be caught without a backup. I'm still out for another month with a lot of playing to do. Worst case I'm hoping I can find something at a walmart or something. There is an abundance of those.

Just watch for redplating. If they don't red plate you'll be fine. Take a look in the back after you've been pushing it for a bit to double check it for your own peace of mind.

Yeah get a cheap digital MM and you will be fine. Look for a Harbor Freight, they have them for $5 normally. You could probably get one for $10-$15 a Walmart

It is nothing like redplating so that's a good thing at least. Just out of curiosity, are mAs and mVs the same when measured against the same resistance? I'm reading that on a different site but I don't understand it

No mA is amperage
mV is voltage

Ohm's law. I = V/R

I = current in amps
V = voltage in volts
R = resistance in ohms

Normally in bias probes R=1 ohm. It makes sense to use a 1 ohm resistor because that makes the volts and amps the same figure.
