i think the real question is: how long can i microwave a rock before getting a reaction?

Depends upon what type of rock it is, different types will ract differently.
If it contains any moisture it will heat up, if it doesn't then it won't, if it contains any metals or metal ores then it could even cause a similar effect to when you place a metal object in a microwave.

As said, depends in the rock.

A ceramic dish is basically rock (dried clay). Since is doesn't have any metal or water then nothing will happen.

A porous rock with water content will warm up and a rock with high concentrations of conductive metals may cause sparking.

That's about it.

Don't listen to these mugs. If you put it in the microwave for long enough, you can eat it.
