I know that this as basically pointless to do this but I just want to see what people say about this.

I am wanting to buy an electric guitar as i currently only have an Tanglewood acoustic guitar. The 2 guitars that I am interested in are the Gretsch G5445T: Double Jet or the reissues of the Danelectro DC 59.

Gretsch G5445T:

Danelectro DC 59 Rissue:

The Gretsch is $1099 on their website and the Danelectro is I think around $500.

As much as I want the Gretsch I also think that the Danelectro could be a better choice as it is at least half the price of the Gretsch. I love the look of both of them but if I could, I would get the Gretsch in the colour Aspen Green but unfortunately Gretsch does not offer that colour for that model.

I would just like to see what would you choose out of those two guitars and what you think of them.

Ditto that- between those two, I'd go Gretsch every time.

You pay more for the Gretsch because you get more with the Gretsch. Used DC '59 reissues go for like $300.

Waitaminit- where are you seeing that price?

I looked at Sweetwater, and that guitar is currently selling for under $600:

Don't know about conversion rates, but he's talking Australian & you're talking American - does that cover the difference?

Hmm...missed that part.

No, it doesn't- $1000AUS is about $940US.

...but shipping & import taxes on top of that might be the difference.

Still, I think Sweetwater ships to Australia- might be worth a look.

Also, don't know about availability, but Reverend guitars make some models that might appeal to you as well.

I'd choose the Gretsch too - I just found that Gretsch model new in the UK for £434 - so about about $660 USD or $715AUS.

So it will be more than the Danelectro but not double the price.

I've got the singlecut version of that Gretsch. It's fantastic. I got mine from Mega Music in Perth (where I live) for $750 or something ludicrous, so the savings are there to be had on the Gretsches, you've just got to wait for a sale. Also you might have to order it in, in which case it'll be ages because the Fender Australia people (who do Gretsch too) are slack as shit.

Yup, pointless.

You're evidently selecting between two seriously different guitars based on looks alone. Flip a coin.

The actual price on the Gretsch website is $1099 and I get that the Gretsch would be of better make than the Danelectro. The only reason why I considered the Danelectro was because of the price compared to the Double Jet.

If you haven't realised yet I am from Australia and I like double cutaway guitars. If anyone has any other suggestions for guitars it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your recommendation dannyalcatraz to Reverend guitars, I really like the look of the Tricky Gomez and will definitely check more reverend guitars out. Thank you.

Reverend is a great brand to look at if you like the looks of the Gretsch and Danelectro. Good call dannyalcatraz, Reverend is a fantastic brand that gets overlooked way too often. It'll probably be the best choice between that, the Gretsch, and Danelectro.

Reverends vs Gretsch? Revs probably deliver a bit better value for money. But Rev probably can't quite touch some of those phenomenal higher end Gretsch models.
