Hello Everyone, I recently started a company with friends that aims to build a high quality distortion pedal that offers beginner guitarists all the benefits of a big brand pedal without costing them an arm and a leg.

So my question is what would you like from a distortion pedal if you were just starting out playing guitar and weren't ready to invest in expensive equipment just yet?

Thanks
Paul

No offense but there's a whole community of pedal builders, both pro and amateur, here. Your question seems to be too vague to imply much experience on your part... I guess what I'm asking is what do you bring to the table? It's not about catering to a market, it's about brining a quality product at a good price.

Most beginners buy Boss DS-1/Digitech Deathmetal. I advise most beginners to get a decent MFX. That way they can learn what they want/will use

i have a hard time giving suggestions based on the fact i am not sure what you say is possible.

and its way too vague to provide suggestions. do you have a price point? certain objectives? i mean are you building a 20 dollar pedal or a 100 dollar pedal?

I think if such a thing could be done, it would be. If you want to do it, be prepared to make very minimal profit margins.

A beginner's ear is usually not great at discerning the minute differences in tone anyway... I think the Hardwire Metal Distortion and the EHX Metal Muff are good enough choices for relatively cheap.

I did. Horrifyingly bad pedals! Though I've come back around to my sd-1, which was my first pedal. Unfortunately, my plastic Ibanez Flanger is lost forever.
IMO, the answer to the thread is cheap multifx with a looper, tuner and metronome.

Do you realize that there are probably over 100 overdrive and distortion pedals out there.. $20 to $300+

In my honest opinion, find something that is unique for modulation or something new.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.
