I see that classical players don't use the pinky, so I was wondering whether or not the pinky should be practiced, or if I should use the standard method.

I've made elaborate posts about this before, so I'm going to cut straight to the point and say no, don't use your pinky.

The only time I use my pinky of my picking hand is during hybrid picking. If I want to pick across 4 strings (DGBE) similar but not the same as a banjo roll.

So that would be:
p (pick instead of thumb)
m
a
c

There is no "i" since it's holding the pick.
