I am going to college next year and I can't have an amp in the dorms. I'm looking for an amp sim that is free and you can get lots of different sounds from it. I don't care too much about quality because it will just be cumming out of my laptop speakers. I've got the 1/8th in cable and 1/4 in adapter to plug it in to that's no big issue. I'm just looking for the software itself.
Thanks in advance for the help!

You may of missed this:

The os doesn't matter much. If your DAW (which you will need to use any free Amp sims as none of them are stand alone) is 64 bit you might not be able to run some 32 bit plugs if it doesn't have a bridge (though you can buy external bridging tools like JBridge to get them to work.) Though some of them do come in 64 bit versions.

And this is actually a massive issue. This will barely work, sound awful (like un-usably so) and possibly break the audio input of your laptop. No matter what you're gonna need an interface. Even if you only buy a really cheap one (like this) You need more than just an adapter.

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

More scared of the fact it's spewing out of his speakers, somehow

I personally view that as a good thing. I would totally want women to become pregnant just by listening to the tasty clit-vibing riffs tumbling out of my speaker...as long as I'm not paying child-support.

Have you considered a multi-FX unit and a pair of headphones or even a pair of monitors depending on budget.

Just a suggestion for a effects unit. Have a look around for what suits you.

As for a cheap set of decent monitors have a look at KRK's rokit 5's

^If he's not mixing he doesn't need monitors. Just an okay pair of headphones.

He can use monitors instead of headphones. I suggested this as he said he was considering using his computer speakers. Monitors are not just for mixing

No, but they tend to be more expensive than normal speakers or headphones.

You can get a used Pocket POD for maybe £30 these days, that'd be my pick. There's loads of advice here already about free amp sims so just try em all and see. personally I find Amplitube 3 most useful for practice and LePou/TSE/Ignite stuff for mixing.
