Stupid idea I had today. I'll start, see who can get this:

"When the Purple Operator had the 5ths in hair!

Live it. Love it. She's just a rollin!

With the cools in the tower with the 80s Cadillac

Live it. Love it. She's just a rollin

is this a repeating thing, like somebody guesses and then a new song is entered? if so I got one...

"on the ceiling, on the porch of glitter"

"yeah she said, she wanna leave Bennegan's"

"once I saw her, on a leaf of Oxen"

"I said, I said I don't wanna whale if it's in a box or a bag"

guess guess

That song (and album) kicks so much ass

Dat snare hit after "You opened fire" gets my adrenaline pumping every single time. Not to mention Layne ascends to god-dom on that track, as well as on Love, Hate, Love.

I love Facelift but I think Dirt is overall my favorite. Such a dark and attitude heavy album.

Rain When I Die is just straight god mode. That fade out and then fade back in. Chills, every time.

And that one part in Dam That River where Layne goes high on "wash me so far away" is probably my favorite thing to sing ever written. Also, that solo.

No disagreeing from me, Dirt is by far the best. I can't remember who said this but I remember them calling the album "a concept album about dying and a taking a trip to Hell's deepest corners". Which is just so perfect.

Rain When I Die is my favorite AiC song ever. The chorus just sends goosebumps through every inch of my skin.

IMO:

Dirt > Devil Put Dinosaurs Here > Facelift/Self-titled (can't decide) > Black Gives Way (still good)

This thread is now about Alice in Chains.

I think my favorite AiC chorus might be Shame In You or Love Hate Love. So good.

This thread made me realize I haven't listened to them in ages
#20
Jar of Flies is great but it's too short to be an album in my book.

If they re-did the songs on Sap and threw them onto Jar of Flies as an entire LP, no doubt it'd be nestled right behind Dirt in my favorites. Sap is really underrated.

Edit: ^ My roommate and I got into a huge AiC phase this year... and it's still going. This is by far the longest I've listened to a band excessively without getting sick of them since my 8th grade-freshman year of college Dream Theater run. Soo they've pretty much assumed favorite band status.

This thread is now about how great AiC are.

And how everyone should want to be Jerry Cantrell or own a Fish pre.

Livin', Lovin'

CHRISTOPHER WALKEN!

EDIT:
Jar of Flies is great but it's too short to be an album in my book.

I'm not familiar with that, but Thunderbirds are Now had a full album that was like 23 minutes with 12 tracks (and only one, the first, is a weird, brief noise track). It's actually just as gratifying as many 45 minute albums. The ideas are just so spazzy that it works to keep the tracks generally under 2 minutes.

Yesss I'm glad you appreciate how amazing that song is. I could listen to it over and over.

Thinking about it, I think Tripod passes Facelift for me. Frogs, Over Now, God Am, Shame In You, Sludge Factory... it's so dark and beautiful
#25
omg that guitar in frogs, the one with the seasick chorus

so amazing

frogs should be everyones favorite aic song how is one song even this good
~don't finkdinkle when ur supposed to be dimpdickin~

I'm so sad, my friend and I play open mics and this week we were planning on doing Frogs.

We just couldn't do it justice in practice.. and we weren't even frustrated, we simply just put our guitars down and bowed to its godliness as a song.

The great part is I'm not even sure if I like the unplugged or studio version better. Layne just dominates unplugged but dem harmonies and Jerry's sludgy, almost hungover guitar work in the studio version are just MMMMM
#28
god damn what is frogs i just dont even

also, idk if its just me, but listening to shame in you just brings down the overall mood of my whole day

like way down

I think that's why I liked the unplugged version so much better.

That just feels like such a deeply personal song for Layne that I feel like it should be about him, performance wise, if that makes sense.

Primus: That's what Frogs does to me. Brings down my entire day and it's just fantastic

I don't even know what song my favorite would be. Probably Frogs, God Smack, or Shame In You.

But yeah, I can agree with Tripod being better than Dirt. It's definitely my favorite album.
#31
That's Nutshell + Don't Follow for me.

Nutshell is a song I refuse to cover just for the reason that it's a song only Layne could do justice. Unfortunately ****s all over youtube don't get that.

Both amazing songs, but holy shit do they put a damper on my happiness

^ Nothing can beat Dirt for me. Tripod is amazing but there's songs I can skip on there. Not true for Dirt

slower and more depressing songs always brighten my day. stuff like Nutshell, 4th of July, Black, and Something In the Way will always put me in a better mood than your average up beat happy song.

but after don't follow, you get to listen to swing on this which is just fantastic

I Stay Away has that absolutely brilliant transfer from the violins to the guitar in the solo. It's almost completely seamless.

****ing brilliant.

Also, Would?

Easily one of my top.

Edit: Would? is also god-tier. Dat ending

...so pretty much their entire discog is god-tier to me.
