Hi. I'm having a little amp dilemma at the minute. The band I'm going to play with will mean il need an overdriven sound (about 80% of the time) and a clean sound. My current amp is a jcm 800 2204 which is one channel. Few problems with this is:

I could get a dsl which would cover all the bases but because most of the time ill be using amps overdrive il miss the tone of the jcm 800.

I could keep the jcm 800 and add say a fender combo for cleans but this would really be alot of gear and cables for pubs and clubs.

Although it sounds great the jcm 800 I have seems to be a really loud version (can't get it past 1 even with drummer) so I'm not really getting the best of it. Through an attenuator it sucks so much tone!

Basically I don't want to compromise on the jcm 800 tone but maybe il have to unless anybody has a better suggestion.

Doesn't have to be a Marshall, just like British overdrive sound.

You can also use your volume knob to clean up your amp.

Set the amp to the point wher you can roll back the volume knob and get a clean you can live with. If you don't have the amount of gain you are used to, boost the input of the amp with a TS type pedal and you just solved your problem.

And if your JCM is 100 watts, pull 2 tubes and run the amp at 1/2 the ohm's it was. so if you had a 16 ohm cab set the amp to 8 ohms and if it is an 8ohm cab set it to 4ohms.

Check to see if the tubes are in side by side pairs or inner2 and outer 2 pairing, I'm not sure with the JCM800

I use both a JMP 2204, and a fender twin reverb at gigs, as long as you manage the volume of both pretty well its yr best bet.
I realize. That I hate the sound of guitars

Rob, the 2204 is 50W.

You can't go past 1 with the drummer with a 2204? Is this your drummer?
