My friend has been wanting to get into guitar for a while, and so I offered to give him my Squier Bullet Strat for a few bucks.

But he, of course, also needs a way to hear the guitar, and maybe some instructional videos, since he lacks a teacher.

Today I was in best buy and I saw one of those oh-so-common starter packs, with the cheap guitar, cheap amp, strap, picks and a DVD featuring a guy telling you how he plays a G chord.

So I offered to give him my strat, the amp, the picks, the strap, and a link to actually helpful videos instead of the aforementioned G enthusiast. I offered this to him for $100, the price of the set.

He accepted this offer and we're set to trade on Wednesday, when I can get over to him.

So my question is am I trading up or down? Is the Maestro somehow more crappy than the Bullet Strat?
I don't really care; I hardly use the strat, anyway. Just a matter of interest.

Thanks for your help!

P.S.: mini-FAQ

Q: Why don't you just give him the entire starter kit?
A: He likes strats, I like Les Pauls. Even crappy ones.
I'm new here. Hurt me plenty.

So they're both equally bad? Well, I'd rather have a sh*tty guitar that looks like a Les Paul Junior than an equally sh*tty guitar that looks like a strat. ALL HAIL THE CRAPPY GIBSONISH GUITARS!!!

Why not look for a used Epiphone LP studio? They run $150ish and are 10x the guitars that either of those 2 are.

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special II, which, if I'm not mistaken, has the same pickups and such that the Studio has. I'm buying a Standard this year, if everything goes well, but I just want to help my friend get into guitar and get a shi*ty guitar I can at least look at without getting sick.

I don't care about pickups, I'm talking quality of construction
