Every guitar and bass forum I've visited has some people chasing some magical tone that will shoot jizzing unicorns riding on a rainbow out of their amp.

Epiphone

They are both Epiphone guitars...

To the OP I would base the purchase off the sound you were going for, if you are after the more vintage British Rock sound I would certainly say go for the Explorer and if you are after a more modern higher gain sound to go for the SG. Both guitars will certainly be able to do either genre fine but obviously the Explorer with its more PAF styled pickups will do classic sounding rock better and the SG with the Alnico V's will be a bit higher gain and do the modern sounds easier.

First off, which one do you like the looks of better?
If you really don't care, then I would recommend the Explorer because it's more solid than the SG. An SG goes out of tune easily if you pull or push on the neck. Plus, James Hetfield played an Explorer.

You should never rely on opinions from others sometimes. Try them out! Not only would you want a guitar you like, but how does it feel? How does it sound? And how is your play ability with them? I for one can't play an SG to save my life! lol.

Well any manipulation of the neck is going to affect tuning on any guitar.
