I use tuxguitar (like guitar pro) to make a song play really slowly so i can play with it. Trying to get faster. But its so annoying to hear those midi sounds bend and play really slowly over and over again.

Use a metronome. Play from the tab without having the MIDI playback.

Audacity can slow songs down without altering the pitch. It's what I use all the time.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

At the end of the day there aren't really any fun ways of playing slow though. Unfortunately guitar isn't always fun when you want to improve

With tux guitar press ctrl+m to open the mixer, turn down the guitar and now you have no more annoying midi sound
Make sure you're using the metronome under Player so you stay in time.
