So I just bought a peavey 5150 block letter off craigslist, the one with the shared eq (not the peavey 5150 2) and I don't have a foot switch. Would any 1/4 trs plug switch work?

most likely, unless they have something very strange they do with their setup.

i have a super simple 1/4" footswitch i use on all kinds of amps and digital hardware (like my buddy's drum machine).

Have a look at the instruction manual, it's written there what would and what wouldn't work.

Also, it'd be helpful to know what exact footswitch you got there, just tu be sure.

Amost guitar amps footswitches work the same way, but there are exeptions.

Though, you'll most likely not destroy anything trying, so try and see for yourself if it works.

Well try it then, it's very unlikely that something will go wrong.
