Hi guys

I know bigger heads will always beat a lunchox sized amp but what can you recommend? High gain lunchbox amps? do they exist? Im talking peavey 5150 gain.
Carvin v3m?

Thanks

There's the Orange Jim Root Terror. It's not really a 5150 though.

Stay away from the V3M for modern metal. Loose fizz city.

Up for the Dark Terror, but I think if you want to reach that gain, you'll be better off with a nice clean amp and a good pedal.

The problem is, to reach that gain stage a Peavey 5150/6505 has 6 preamp tubes, 7 if it's the 6505+, and even if not all are used for the lead channel, even 4 or 5 are a bit too much to fit into a lunchbox amp.

I don't know anything about this topic, but I just clicked on this thread because of your username :O

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

515III is fairly small. Mesa Mini rec is pretty small as well.

They aren' lunch box size but they do give you more than any lunch box would.

See, it's important that people clarify when they say "metal", because I pretty much always assume they are a Cannibal Corpse fanboi.

^ I just looked up pics for the Mini Rectifier, it's actually pretty damn small.

That's what we made pentodes like the EF86 for, but the dual triode design is so common that many people think that's all there is.

Does the EVH 5150 iii Mini count as a lunchbox head?

It handles drop tuning very well, I think. Been as low as B standard and it was just fine

i hear around that the Jim Root is the best... Me and my rhythm guitarist are looking to buy a couple. We play in Drop C

I haven't played it myself, but I'd definitely say the ENGL Ironball could be of interest here.
