So I have an empty spot on my pedalboard. I only use this board for live use and I would like to have a pedal I can kick on at the beginning or end of a song that makes people go "WTF WAS THAT!?" I don't care if it's musical even, I just want some kind of bizarre effect that sounds ridiculous and makes people turn their heads. It would also need to fit in a spot the size of a Boss pedal, maybe a little larger like a Hardwire pedal, that's all the room I have. And preferably not something super expensive since I'm really only using it for kicks. Any idea's?

If you want wacky, you're going to have to pay for it. Look at Dwarfcraft for example.

Otherwise get something digital and wack out the parameters, a Line 6 M5 might have something you can work with.

Wacky doesn't have to be expensive, Ibanez made a whole bunch of rubbish but unique pedals like the Smashbox, and you can always circuit bend or hack a DS-1 or any similar thing into a noise machine.

You could grab a cheap chorus and leave the speed and depth maxed out.

Theres the new small zoom multieffects stompboxes that may be pretty good. If they're anything like the G5 (which I'd presume they would be) then they'll have loads of useless but fun effects to mess around with and as its only for occasional live use, it doesn't need to be amazing quality

EDIT: something like these http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/ms-100bt

You could just mic a whoopee cushion

Or learn to make horse noises with a Floyd Rose. Seriously, I do it, as I'm sure many of you have.

Many delays already have ways to make that dive-bomb sound at the end of "Eruption", but you have to tweak the knobs manually as you make the effect happen.

I 'm more into the "WTF" noises you can make just with the guitar, rather than effects. Check out EVH & Tom Morello.

A catalinbread Heliotrope would do the trick. It's not quite a ring mod, it's not quite a bit crusher, it's not quite a fuzz, and it's radiation green.

Tone is in the fingers.

What you really need is a new amp.

get a delay, set repeat and time to max, and mix to half.
that's wacky enough.

Well, technically it could be done, but only in the same way that you could change a cat into a hamburger. It's an unpleasant process, and nobody is happy with the result.

EHX Freeze pedal + a pick scrape.

OR you can circuit bend a delay pedal and have a royal screamer.
