I'm looking for a guitar in the $1000-$1500 range, and the PRS s2 line caught my eye. But I'm afraid that it might just be an SE that's made in America. The pickups for example, are made in Korea, just like the SE's, so will they be that much better? Any input on the s2's or other guitars in that price range (I've also been looking at carvins) is appreciated.

Also I play mostly classic rock and blues rock but like to mix in a little of everything. Right now I have a MIM HSS Strat and want something that plays and sounds better, although the feel is pretty good.

I'd rather get a used CE22/24
2002 PRS CE22
2013 G&L ASAT Deluxe
2009 Epiphone G-400 (SH-4)
Marshall JCM2000 DSL100
Krank 1980 Jr 20watt
Krank Rev 4x12 (eminence V12)
GFS Greenie/Digitech Bad Monkey
Morley Bad Horsie 2
MXR Smart Gate

In that price range, you could consider looking for something more...customized.

I have looked into carvins fairly extensively, and my favorite builds are almost the exact same as the S2 custom (ie mahogany body with maple top, two humbickers, mahogany neck). Which one do you think would sound better? I have heard both good and bad things about carvin pickups.

Carvin pickups are best described as ordinary, so the PRS may well sound better...but will probably cost more than a comparable Carvin with upgraded aftermarket pickups

The carvins I've built on the website run about the same as the S2's. the Korean made pickups scare me a little. I'm afraid they will be the same as the SE pickups.
