In my say, I have heard many guitar tones. Bluesy ones, rocky ones, grungy ones, and even clean ones. But there seems to be a really Go-To setup that has existed for decades, producing the base for which rock has been built.

My vote goes to either Les Paul=>Tube Screamer=>Marshall tube stack
Or... Strat=>Tube Screamer=>Any Fender Super Combo or Twin

Wha dyou guys think?

A "tubescreamer" is a person paid by a guitarist to stand behind the amp and scream at the tubes. This terrifies the tubes into overdriving and delivers a thick, harmonic-rich tone.

In the 80s any guitar -> Boss SD-1 -> JCM 800 was pretty damn common.

yup, and how many 800 based amps are still around today? a ton. that was one pretty successful amp.

in the 90's though everyone seemed to be doing mesa boogie rectifiers

For metalcore/deathcore this setup is overused as ****.

ESP/Ibanez with EMGs -> TS9 (Gain on 0, Level 10, Tone to taste) -> ISP Decimator -> Peavey 6505/6505+ -> Mesa Boogie Recto 4x12.

Isn't gonna stop me from getting this setup, just without the EMGs.
