I was supposed to fall asleep about 3 hours ago, but now I can't focus on sleeping since there is something really strange happening.

On somewhat regular intervals, the whole sky as seen from my southeast window flashes in bright light. I mean bright, like I lay in bed eyes closed and it's still almost blinding. I first thought that it's a lightning storm, but regarding internet weather websites there are barely any clouds here, and anyway it's dead silent. Only bright flashes of light. I've seen some lightning storms close in from afar and they are often tinted red until they get close, but this is bright white. And the lack of sound is still disturbing.

Anyone has a scientific explanation or a better view to the sky? I live in Turku if it helps.

You've got AIDS and are dying. The silent light is the oncoming enveloping power of the Lord.

Fireworks

Could be, just abnormally bright and really boring colour.

I don't drink :P And I'm pretty sure now that it isn't fireworks. Some are bright enough to light the whole skyline.

Definitely.

Now I'm just getting really curious. There are no lightning spotted in that direction at the moment, and there shouldn't be any kind of thundercloud either. Still the flashes are so bright that I could read in the light.

The flashes still occur at different spots. They do remind me of lightning a lot, but with no sound and no clouds this would be the most unnatural storm I've ever seen. I hope it stops before my alarm rings.

Actually the same thing happened around 3 am here in South Carolina. I was up late watching some porno and noticed it for a moment, but the porno then took a more importance to my mind. Yeah but it was bright white lightening like flashes upon a clear sky, with no sound.
A bassist is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.

Lightning doesn't need particularly heavy cloud cover, and depending on the distance and the wind direction/terrain it might be far enough away that you can't hear it.

Aurora Borealis?
Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

Finalnd is far enough north that you are likely just getting some atmospheric effects from solar events. Nothing special.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurora_%28astronomy%29

it doesn't necessarily have to be the pretty streams that everyone always sees. It could just be spotty and flashy like that.

Or it could have been a meteor shower with larger rocks that are going through air bursts.

I am going with solar events.
